Glory to Teleport!

The two limitations placed on it seem:

A. A rather lengthy delay after the fact of teleportation that has nothing to do with cast speed, unless cast speed makes you fall down faster. PvP whiners should be satisfied.
B. Can't teleport through walls. PvE whiners should be satisfied for obvious reasons.

Also, I feel it is my obligation to accentuate that the Wizard can shoot a ****ing laser.

The Wizard also looks vulnerable for about 1-2 seconds after the teleport finishes.

Oohh... I want my Power Word: Death!

But seriously, most of those spells are like based on d&d and other spinoffs

Wow.
In both D1 and D2, and many games in general, I'm not a big fan of magic classes.
But this will prolly be my first character. it looks like SO MUCH FUN. Those skills all look EPIC. Jesus christ I'm excited for D3.

Yeah really.

Magic Missile
Ray of Frost
Meteor Swarm
Arcane Armor

All D&D spells. How hard is it to just name it something else? Just call it Arcane bolt and stick with blizzard's weird tradition of calling missiles bolts.

The Wizard's great and all, but c'mon.

I like the idea of a spell caster who dabbles in forbidden magics- it means they're definitely in that essential morally gray area. I think a problem, though, is that they've gone and given this character mantle to a youth, which is basically the "rebellious youth" theme- I'd rather have seen an older wizard, since it'd give the character more depth.

Other than that- looks like a generic caster with fun-looking skills. I'm looking forward to it

I can't wait until the Wizard is finalized. She looks like she'll make an AWESOME Rin Tosaka:

Male wizard just wasn't playable at blizzcon and the story writeup at the official site is for the female version.

The male version of the wizard reminds me of the Necromancer from DII. This might be a respectable replacement to the Necromancer for me.

This looks like the coolest char ever. Altough I guess if they had made a trailer like this for the WD or the Barb we would have loved those guys too.

This is very much NOT like out old Sorc. Got a whole different feel for it. Me like.

Only two cons for me are:
1. Laser sucks. Just looks out of place.
2. Her look sucks. She ain't looking like a spellcaster but remainds me more the Assa for D2. The artwork for her is far for the gameplay version and far superior aswell IMO. I'll got for the male version if she stays like this.

Anyway, I don't know what Blizz was talking about- I love this char.

Hmmm, If its anything like the sorc from d2, there would be 3 trees for magic. I really hope its not because it concerns me that i haven't seen any cold spells, just lightning, fire, and arcane. I really hope they didn't pull a Failgate: London and took out frost element from the game.

No cold spells in a Blizzard game for a caster is like a barbarian designed without muscles. Its just not natural.

I hope that's not what they mean by next character reveal will upset a lot of people, because i would be upset that i can't play with fire and ice anymore =(

*Drool* Wizard. Look here for some gathered information from the articles written during Blizzcon

Wizard class description, skills and attributes (http://www.diablowiki.net/Wizard)
Presumeably complete list of skills (http://www.diablowiki.net/Wizard_skills) with descriptions, all with available rank. Most with their respective mana cost, duration and changes after next rank. This is not complete but transcribed by wiki members from the http://diablo.incgamers.com articles from Blizzcon.

The 3 Skill Trees are Storm, Arcane and Conjuring. You can get some hints out of the skills as to what skills will be inside.

Ah, thanks for putting to rest my fears of lack of cold spells.

Now I have a new concern for the lack of variety of fire related spells. =(

I understand the list isn't final, so i'll take the wait and see approach.

cheers.

I belive Fire will be dominated by the WD. I think they won't want to make the same element useable for more than one char, but we have seen it in D2.

13-10-2008, 16:59
Why would that possibly be a concern, other than continuity? Brace yourself for the inevitable lack of a sudden inclusion of a fire tree such as the WD appears to have.

The wizard deals in Storm, Arcane and Conjuring. Apart form Disintegrate and Meteor Storm i do not think there will be more fire related spells. Thinking in terms of the Diablo Mage or the Diablo 2 Sorceress will not help.

Brace yourself for a new mage caster experience that will disintegrate all kinds of monsters in totally different ways, that you have not seen yet. At least that is my approach. This is a new game, so i let it come at me, without looking back at what was before.

Important to me is that the lore is maintained well. As long as the skills are balanced and keep working together in such an awesome was as can be seen in the wizard trailer and gameplay demo i will be more than happy.

By the way, I'm hating on you for having better spell graphics than the WD. We demand equality in the visual department!

The head is spiffy and the fire bats are nice as well. I haven't seen the new fire bomb animation yet. But it is nowhere near a giant laser. The time bubble looks cool. Electrocute is very sweet. Hell, even Magic Missile leaves glowing purple corpses! The only lame looking skill at the moment is teleport. I hope one day the WD will reach the awesome spell level of the Wiz. :worship:

Whats not-so-awesome about a WD ?
Being able to summon your very own Suicide Bombers,
Make a wall of Zombies ( Yikes!)
Summon Insects ? :o
Being able to lob around fire-bombs?

We've seen the Wizard Movie, but not the WD Movie, if there is going to be one.

I love the wizard, but the Witch Doctor is the 2nd class im going to make :P
Assuming the other 2 un-revealed classes aren't cooler than the WD =D

Well i certainly think the somewhat gave the wizard a great debute, somewhat putting the other characters a bit in the shade, since they did not get any intromovies showing off their skills in such a way.

I for one am just to biased, since i have always been playing pure caster classes and i don't think i will ever stray away from that. From that viewpoint i feel that Blizzard once again managed to hit the heart of those players who really enjoy playing casters the most.

I wonder if that is the same for those loving to play classes that use summons, like the Witch Doctor?

Another cool spell: Force Wave :) Also from what i have seen, those spells you get at the beginning stick to be your bread and butter skills, much unlike D2. I like that as well.

Mad Mantis

There is only one confirmed summon type as of now. We don't know how many of those we can raise. We don't know is we can have multiple types of summons. What is loved is the fact that there will be means to enhance your minions with your other skills.

The Wiz has the benefit of a very good intro movie, a lot of worked out spells (probably already a complete skill tree) and the fact that the game is not new to players so they can show of the character itself. The Barb and WD had to share the spotlight with the game itself since we hadn't seen anything yet.

LaZeR
14-10-2008, 13:15
Yeah, I have to say Blizzard didn't do much justice with the Barb and the WD compared to the Wizard.
Combination of gameplay and movie, cool music, fast scene changes. Hell, the Wiz even got to use a Skill Rune in the trailer.

MysteryNotes
14-10-2008, 13:58
We don't know is we can have multiple types of summons.

The gameplay video commentator says "The first of these pets are the mongrels".
So the Witch doctor will be able to summon more than one type for sure.

Mad Mantis

So the Witch doctor will be able to summon more than one type for sure.

Thanks, I forgot that. But what I meant was I don't know how many different types of summons we can have active at the same time. The Necro can have a Golem, Skellies, Mages and Revives. For all we know the WD has to choose between his minions.

MysteryNotes
15-10-2008, 02:15
Mm.
I'd like to think that you could have as many of the summons active as possible.
because if not, then it'd make the earlier pets un-used(As in nobody would use them)

I don't know about that, it looks to me like the later skills deeper in your skill tree seem to boost the skills in an earlier tier. Like tier 1 are the basic skills and basic enhancements which may effect multiple tiers, tier 2 are more advanced skills and enhancements which enhance your basic skills within the tree, and tier 3 are made up of some strong spells and enhancers which further boost specific skills and tier 4 have a few "ultimate" skills and enhancers which boost all skills in the tree as well as your ultimate.

For example it seems that if you were to create a Wizard you could go Arcane, Storm or Conjuring. Lets focus on the Storm tree (who doesn't enjoy shooting lightning at your enemies)...

Here is a rough diagram of the Storm Skill tree The full lines connect skills which have synergy with each other. The bottom lists skills which are available from other skill trees which benefit the storm line

http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l4/NKlint/RoughStormTree.jpg

There are 7 offensive/defensive spells in the Storm Tree and 11 skills which enhance the spells in the storm line (as well as a few which help spells not in the storm line - example: Empowered Magic, and Lightning Speed) as well as 11 more skills in the Arcane and Conjuring trees which can benefit the Storm Tree's offensive/defensive spells.

While none of those skills do anything for a Witch Doctor's summons, I foresee a similar ratio of Offensive/Defensive/Summon skills to Enhancer Skills in the Witch doctors Skill tree and the tiers within those trees after future exposure.

Here are the Arcane and Conjuring Trees, too.
