I'm sure this question has been asked 1000% time's yes i searched, and it's all foreign jargon to me.

Here it is.

Q1 I have a base pally shield with 65% ED. If I socket it with Ed///Max jewels Will it be bugged.

Q2 Perhaps I use jewels with PLAIN max dmg Will it be bugged.

I heard that the actual "Bug" lies within the jewel itself but i'm not sure how it would react to something already with BASE ED , or Base ED With max jewels I appreciate your help and please don't pitchfork me to bad =):cloud9:

I've never heard of this bug, and if you're not referring to the eth bug I'm not sure I want to hear it either. If it's not intentional there's a good chance it's not balanced, which also means that it's an exploit. In a game as easy as D2, we don't need to exploit to win, do we?

Yeah, You have no idea don't worry about it lol. It's not an "Exploit" It's where the Ed//or max dmg doesn't calculate into anything except weapons and I'm not quite sure how it works.

I guess it's about this bug: if you socket smth with a ed%/max jewel, only max works, and ed% doesn't work. Well, I don't know all the conditions under which this bug happens, but I'm quite sure that if you socket ed% item with a plain max jewel, all should work.

I would like to know about the ED//MAX jewel if I cannot get this answer I guess i'll have to do Trail and error :O but i rather wouldn't with sexy jewels :O

ed/max are bad in anything non-weapon. Basically, it works like this...

rather than stack the %ed and the +max, it takes the +max.
the %ed still applies to the min damage (unless you have +min jewels in there as well).

the base %ed on the shield doesn't share the bug as far as I know.

Oh yeah, and I'm not sure if a %ed/max jewel would cause the base %ed on the shield to become bugged. I would stick to straight +max jewels.

Why not 2x +Max and 2x +enhanced damage% on separate jewels? You'll get more bang for buck, depending on the numbers and level requirements you're looking at (did the math a long time ago).

As has been said above, the problem is that there really isn't much bang for the buck on a 40% ED jewel, since it's being counted as off-damage ED. Example:

You got an average Grief (+375) PB and 150 Strength. You're using level 27 Fanaticism.

Total Avg Damage = (33 + 375) * (1 + 150/100 + 492/100)
= 408 * (1 + 1,5 + 4,92)
= 408 * 7,42
= 3027

Say you put 2x 40% ED and 2x 15 Max jewels in there with your 65% ED shield.

New Total Avg Damage = (53 + 375) * (1 + 150/100 + 492/100 + 65/100 + 80/100)
= 428 * (1 + 1,5 + 4,92 + 0,65 + 0,8)
= 428 * 8,87
= 3796

An increase of 25% overall, but let's not forget the price. Exile is just one HR, provides insane amounts of survivability, 30% FBR and 34% ED through increased Fanaticism level. Sanctuary is a very cheap alternative, and apart from its massive boost to block (freeing points to increase Vitality) its 50-70 @ res enables you to prioritize differently on your other item slots.

The actual difference in damage from the proposed shield is (relatively) small, while the decrease in survivability compared to the available alternatives are substantial. Being hardcore, I'd choose one of the runewords any day. Not really the point of the thread I know, but just wanted to put it into perspective before you go into a jewel spending spree. ;)

Alash, I think Jugs would be using it for a LLDer rather than an end game build that has much better options. I've always understood the bug that it's just ed/max or ed/min together in one jewel.
