I'm leaving to drive up to anaheim in a couple of hours (I've been visiting family in san diego for the past week) and I have such a list of questions. I'm sure I'll never get to ask them all; there are far too many, but hopefully that red block of gameplay machines is a bunch of d3 machines and i'll get to observe and try some hands on and pick up info that way, alogn with talking to the d3 team who loiter around the machines to answer questions and assist the players.
I don't want to post the whole list, since it's mega long and mustn't give other people the idea of what to ask, but here's an excerpt to cheer you guys up. this is the combat section, and it's maybe 1/4 page out of my 7 pages of questions.
Combat
Overall theory of how combat functions in d3. Just D2 with new stuff? Major or minor changes? Improvements?
Ranged combat. Any info about it? Changes to how bows or throwing weapons work in d3?
The arrows in d2 move slowly; monsters can easily dodge them if they’re moving side to side. The merc arrows in the d3 gameplay demo move very slowly as well.
Arrows and bolts and throwing items have scarcity? Type? Magical properties? Bows have durability?
Combat physics: the same hit-or-miss defense system that was in d2, or will armor, chance to hit, and defense points be completely redone?
Any way to add more skill to combat?
Or all still about stats/equipment/skills?
Have to hover on a target for a second to charge up powerful shot etc.
Equivalent of head shots? Or too machine/lag dependent?
Damage types:
Are there more forms of elemental damage in d3?
Spectral?
Cold still chill/slow targets? Other ways to slow/stop monsters?
Poison? Or other damage over time damage types?
Antidotes? Cures? Defreezing potions or buffs?
Spells that do their huge AoE, lightning fury, etc?
and I'll think of a bunch more stuff to ask once I'm there viewing the game, and will have far more to write about just explaining the mechanics and physics, after seeing it in action. fun.
