View Full Version : Javazon and resistances

Looking to make me a Javazon as I've never had one and I've seen my buddies just tear through CS in an 8 player game.
I looked at the suggested equipment, and it looks like this is most people's suggestion:
Titans
Stormshield
Griffons
Highlords/Cat's Eye
CoH/Enigma
Tgods/Razortail
2/20 gloves
Treks/Aldurs/Rares
Raven/BK
The thing I noticed when adding all the options up is the resistances are quite low, the highest being 55cold/-5fire/55light/-5poison with the first options listed being chosen. This seems like it should be a cause for concern. Any thoughts on using a Sanctuary in place of the Stormshield? I would lose %DR and some Str, but do I really need those as I would think the only things that will hit me would be ranged mobs? Comments?
Also, if you would post what you are using and what your resists/fhr/ias/fbr breakpoints you hit with your setup that would be awesome.
Thanks.
Edit: Also, for my merc, gonna do an Infinity, but am debating between andy/vamp and fortitude/stone, so thoughts here would be great.
ss isn't needed in pvm, so the sanctuary will work just fine. Another option is a spirit shield, more fcr for your teleport along with skills/mana/res, I'd consider arach over tgods, 1 all skill and fcr against light abs and +3 lf (tgods belong on baalrunners, for the sorb vs souls).

Res, IAS, FHR and FBR isnt really a concern for a PvM Javazon. Imo, its all about offense.
For merc, I like eth Shaft and eth Gaze. The 50%dr makes he stand for 2-3 hits when he is under IM, which gives you the time to give him a full Rev Pot.
It's pretty easy to get about 30 to 40 resists from amazon torch and anni. You get 30 from anya quests, 65 from CoH. With pdiamond or um stormshield, it should be close to max resists. Anything that is not max, fill up with charms.

I hope I can give you some idea, this is my set-up for PVM and it gives me maxed resists:
Eth Titan
Mossers Blessed Circle with 2 P diamond
Griffons (with 5/5 facet)
Mara's
Enigma
Spider
2/20 gloves
Treks
Raven/SOJ in Baal or 2 SOJ in CS
Torch/Anni
Full of Java GC's and small resis charms
CTA+Spirit on switch
Gives me 9K+ CS damage plus I can run fast, tele and do rushes. Merc uses Infinity, COH and Crown of Thieves.
This is my set-up for PVP and it gives me maxed resists too:
Thunderstrokes (+4 java skills)
20/20 shield
Griffons (with 5/5 facet)
Mara's
COH
Spider
2/20 gloves
Treks
Raven/BK
Torch/Anni
Full of Java GC's and small resis charms
Gives me 12K CS damage (plus I know how to FC ssshhh!). If I met another FC zon, I slap Tgods, 4 PTopaz shield n 2 Wisps. I laugh as I CS her. Her name is Titan_Xtreme and I play in USWest and could have FC killed or NK most players, which I apologize for being BM. I have mostly lost to sorbing paladins and legit windys (hate those cyclone armor). Msg me if you play on West and I can give you some pointers.

Thanks for the reply, I will look you up as I also play on west, hopefully you can answer a couple of specific questions I have.
indeed res isnt all that important for a java, cept maybe lightning if you do baal walks a lot (cough gloams). then again, in those situations, you could always switch to tgods and/or highlords if you dont use them already (i keep both in cube). as for the rest... javas slaughter everything from a distance and leech a lot of life if you do good physical damage, so as long as your resists are above zero... dont worry about it.
a poor's man version of res boots are nat's, which gives you 15-25 cold/light and a very nice 40 frw.
i also like moser's personally; it looks infinitely better than a troll nest sanctuary and gives you about the same res - and block - with 2xpdiamonds/ums in it. the great thing about it is that you can "customize" it if you dont need that much res, i.e. put 1 or 2 of facet/ist/cham/eld instead of pdiamonds/ums. if you only need 25-30 res from your shield... i'm pretty sure a moser's with 2 facets will do more for your damage than the +2 skills from spirit (not to mention its str req, even when up'd, is a lot lower).

First, the most significant gear I've obtained/made is the Infinity for my merc. Prior to putting that together, LIs would frustrate the hell out of me in Hell (pun intended) and I'd end up running for the portal out with a dead merc to pay for (40k+). Once I got him equipped with the Infinity, life became much better. Second, get the Fortitude, I think the survivability of the merc is a lot better since putting him in that. Lastly, I'd like to put Andy's on him, but I haven't found one yet. To me, poison and freezing are the most troublesome issues in general for my merc, and LIs for the ones the Infinity can't break so the combo of Fortitude and Andy's seems to be ideal.
Anyway, this is what I'm geared up with right now on my clvl 78 Furizon:
Wpn: Titans'
Shield: Spirit (awesome and cheap +2 skills, & +35% res all except FR; but I get 50% from Laying of Hands)
Helm: Shako - I'm considering what I want to socket it with presently, because I have a really nice jewel, or maybe a PTopaz...I don't need an Um in it, because I'm already around 65-75% on all resists, but I suppose it couldn't hurt.
Belt: Thundergod's - I haven't found a Razortail, but I don't seem to have a problem with penetrating mobs
Ring1: Ravenfrost - CBF is nice
Ring2: Nature's Peace (love this sucker) +30% PsnR, underated ring perhaps?
Armor: CoH (+65% res all, +2 skills)
Boot: I have Natalya's, but I usually wear Goreriders. Natalya's brings up my weak spots in CR and LR + 40 FRW.
Ammy: Mara's - +2 skills, +22% res all
Glove: I use Laying of hands, +50% FR and +350% dmg to demons, but I have a +2 Passive set in my stash that I use at the beginning of a session to spawn my Valk.
Merc:
Wpn: Infinity (ethereal Partizan I think, can't remember)
Armor: Fortitude, the +res gets him to 70 in everything I think
Helm: old Lore War Hat I used to wear with like 108 defense. +1 skills
Here is how I'm currently built;
0 skills in Bow/CrxBow
1 in all Passives except Valk, which I overloaded with 9 slvl. I now know I could have gone with 5 slvl and still get the desired 17 slvl with my +2 Pass gloves. If I rebuild a Furizon, that's what I'll shoot for.
Jab - 1
Power Strike - 1
Poison Jav - 1
Lit Bolt - 1
CS - 20
LS - 20
LF - 20
Plague Jav - 6 (all of my remaining skill points will go here)
Basically, with the merc having the Infinity, I only have to worry about bosses or LE mobs that don't get the LI broken in which case I fire with the Plague Jav and then Jab if they aren't PI. For the LE LIs, the Plague Jav seems to work really well. I have yet to see a mob with LI/PI/PsnI so I think I can just about everything outside of the Ubers. Running the Pit has been pretty simple, and bosses die so quickly (Andariel for example) that I have to check to see if I'm in Hell mode, seems like its one hit of CS and she's gone...
This seems to work for me pretty well. My resists are all around 60-70 if I remember correctly, but its not usually a problem because most stuff is dead before I get hit. Bosses that "blowup" with some AoE effect my merc more than me. About the only thing to fear is possibly mana drains, since that can rob you of your attack momentarily (Full Revs are plentiful), but they aren't that common.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I ended up going this route (I spent far more than I originally intended but she is kick ***).
Griffons (-24/18) with level facet
Maras 21res
eth upped Titans (185/5) [CtA on switch]
"Phoenix" Monarch (this is amazing) ["Spirit" on switch]
Enigma (started with CoH but wanted the frw and the tele)
T-gods
2/20/dex/res gloves
Nat's boots
Raven/BK
Merc:
eth "Infinity" Thresher
ebugged CoH
Vampgaze
Charms:
Torch
Anni
1x fhr jav
3x plain jav
2x jav w/minor mods
1x 15res gc
2x 20life sc
4x 19life sc
2x 5res sc
I am in love with this setup. With Phoenix I have full health and mana after every battle and during the longer battles I get replenished multiple times. Originally I got very frustrated with having to chug blues like they were going out of style and I didn't want to sacrifice my other gear for +mana after each kill so decided to try out this setup and I won't go back. I also started using CoH, but found out with Phoenix on I don't need the resists as I get healed so often and mobs die so fast it isn't necessary. Also being able to flash groups with conviction and holy freeze is nice since Emilio isn't the smartest helper in the world and likes to get lost. So I gave him my CoH which got him to full resists, gave him some damage reduced and also some extra life leech and he survives much better now.
The only issue really is mana burn monsters, but I found that blues are actually better than rejuvs because of the timer effect. It gives so much more mana than I need to fill my orb so mana burn just depletes the little bit of mana that has filled up since the last burn and supers refill fast enough that I always have enough mana to cast at least one fury.
A very cheap option "equipment-spot-wise" is to switch the nat boots for silk weaves. Just 10% frw is lost, as well as some res (which you said isn't necessary yourself), while silks help alot with mana.
Also, I don't see any ias on your gear except the gloves. Throwing fast is good. Even if you one-throw kill enemies, it's still helpful, since 1 throw takes less time. Not crucial of course

I never did try out silks, have to try that. I also have a Highlords, I just don't wear it much as I haven't really found I needed to attack faster. Thank for the ideas!

With Pheonix, there isnt really a need for the Silks for the extra mana imo. Pheonix is all you need.
Also, for the IAS. It really isnt needed for PvM. If its reachable without sacrifising +skills or -enemyres, then I go for it. If not, then IAS is low on my list.
Belt. I always go for Razortail. 100% pierce ftw!

I meant I would take the Phoenix off and try the silks on their own to see how they compare. I will also have to try razortail, even though I am skeptical it is a better overall belt for the build. :)
