Sloted Items

Hey guys, Ive had D2 for about a week now and have been enjoying my hammer pally so far.

It was suggested that a spirit shield and sword would be a great way to improve my character. So, my goal for the last few days has been to make one.

The one hitch is that I can not seem to find the proper slotted gear no matter what I do.

Ive not seen a single slotted pally shield, and maybe 3 swords with the wrong number of sockets drop.

Is there a place to go or some kind of trick to see these kinds of items drop with the correct number slots? Ive run probably 50 cow runs so far hoping for the items I need. Am I just super unlucky or is this expected.

In what difficulty are you doing the cow runs?

I'd suggest you do Lower Kurast runs in addition to Cow runs. You can find two or more weapon and armor racks on every LK map. Search around the forum for LK runs to learn how to locate the positions of the three superchests (near the two campfires). There is always a weapon rack in the hut containing one superchest, and there is always an armor rack just above the hut containing two superchests.

Im just looking for a crystal sword or a broad sword so I can use it on any alts without much difficulty.

It might be useful to know that in Normal items never drop with more than 3 sockets (although they can get more via Larzuk or the cube recipy). In NM items never drop with more than 4 sockets.

If you have been running cows in Normal it's no surprise you haven't found any 4 socket items yet.

I *think* that items in Normal can only drop with up to three sockets, but I'm not entirely sure.

I suggest doing the runs with as little MF as possible as that increases your chance of white/socketed items dropping. I'd do NM cows or NM Flayer Jungle if I were you, I found a 4 sox Broad Sword and a 4 sox Crystal Sword in the FJ yesterday.

That would explain a lot. I was on the verge of extreme frustration.

Is this a miss-type, or do I have to wait for hell to see 4 socket weapons.

No, what stephan said is that no items with more than 4 sockets can appear in NM. 4 socketed weapons/shields do definitely fall in NM.

I'm pretty sure that Normal Cows are an exception to the 3-Sockets rule for normal.

I'm pretty sure when I checked they are of the right level to be able to drop items with 4 sockets and I have also picked up a 4os CS in a normal Cow game, but it was multiplayer so it *is* possible someone dropped it to clear space in their stash.
