View Full Version : Which build for Mav's?
Of Wolf and Man

Hi guys & gals. Wanting to try my hand at a bowazon. Almost have a full Mav's set (just need helm). Have read through a few of the guides and cant seem to decide what build. Can any Zon's with experience make a suggestion as to what build would make best use of the Mav set.
Thanks in advance.
Mav zons come in three different styles.
You can go pure frostmaiden. Max out freezing arrow and cold arrow, then focus on passives and mana skill such as valk and decoy. Has some decent killing power and high survivability though has huge CI problems. However, if you are party player, this might be the build.
You can combine the frostmaiden with strafe/multishot. This seems like the most natural way of dealing with Ci as you will keep your set bonusses. Problem is that mav's doesn't offer good damage due it a bad bow and that the other gear doesn't really focus on damage.
You could go with an other bow as strafe bow, though still it won't be as good as you'd hope and you will lose the full set bonuses.
The final way of dealing with Ci is by using titans with a good shield on switch in combination with lighting fury. Lightning fury is an overpowered skill and even with the weakness of a not full mav's set, it will still get the job done. Even loosing out the setbonuses isn't problem as eventually, you don't lose that much. It's true power lies with cold skills.
If you go with mav's, the cold skills are a no-brainer. However, unimportant what second attack you chose, for the same cost, you can get a better killer - fine you may lose some survivability, though it's still softcore right? Killing power rules.

I'm building one now, and she's lvl 78 or so and doing quite well in early Hell. I went FA/Strafe, and it works well with a few key gear decisions.
1. Crescent Moon amulet. Mine has 14% mana leech and 4% life leech. Add that to the gloves' 5% ML and strafe refills your bulb quite quickly against CIs.
2. Might Merc. More dmg = more leech for your party. And an Insight elite eth polearm is a godsend, otherwise you have to strafe/leech a LOT more often.
3. A bunch of small cold charms. You just need as many as it takes to keep all enemies frozen while you systematically shatter them. Freeze duration is increased by 1 second per charm in Normal, 1/2 sec per charm in NM, 1/4 sec per charm in Hell.
4. The rest AR charms so strafe hits more often. Obviously I maxed strafe, but it has no AR bonus. You could also use a Demon Limb on switch for the Enchant charges, but I pumped Dex pretty high, working on maxing Penetrate, have some nice steel charms, and have a ravenfrost so no troubles hitting so far.
Gameplay: Use Valk, DECOY, and Slow Missles liberally to keep enemies off you. Strafe will also scout enemies off screen for you, it shoots multiple arrows instead of just one if there are monsters just out of view. I often scout using strafe, cast Decoy near the edge of the screen if strafe indicates enemies, and then freeze and shatter them while they attack the decoy. For cold immunes, the Decoy+Valk+Merc usually keep them at bay long enough for strafe to finish them off.
Here's a similar build writeup that I found useful. Note this is modded Single Player for the Insight.

I made a Mageazon (FA/EA). Probably not as good as a FA/Strafer, but it gave me an excuse to use EA. =D
