I'm pretty much using a cookie-cutter zealot with max zeal, max sacrifice, max fanat, and max holy shield. Do they usually use edc? I want the most versatility, not just damage.

Ebotdz/Grief/Oath/Death/Edc basically anything fast and that has nice dmg. Ebotdz gives nice dmg, speed, stats, crazy leech, doesn't need repaired overall a nice weapon.

Grief is most common, and best IMO. Stormlash is also used now and then.
You talking about zeal vs. zeal duels? If so I would say edc or botd are probably the most popular. Death is ok but I always did better with my edc build, and some realms (USEast non-ladder) consider death BM due to the ctc glacial spike strange because on USEast ladder it was always allowed. Grief however was considered bm in zeal duels on both East ladder and non. A nice rare ethereal weapon with high %ed, fool's mod, and ias would be sweet of course. Some less commonly used but still decent weapons are eth runemaster, eth razors edge, eth heaven's light, eth up'd headstriker can be fun to mess around with. But it really depends on the rest of your gear as well.
depends on your budget and whether this is for duelling or pvm tbh. Rich ones often go for runeword such as BotD or grief if they were smiting too. Mid high level something like astreons, stormlash (for 1pt smiters) and less would be something like azure, lightsabre or heavens light. Each has its advantages. It all depends what their other equiptment is like, how much CB they want.
My first char after the mandatory mf sorc this season is a zealot just like the one you've described. The weapon I'm using is an Oath Crescent moon. The complete cost is less than an ist. Now all the rest of my gear is gathered and I'm using the pally as it is for the moment. I'm saving up for botd eventually. Mini Ubers are no problem but I think I need botd for Uber Tristram.
Edit: Oath has nice dmg and speed, botd has awesome damage, great life leech, speed, and some other wicked mods like 30+all attributes. Just the extra dmg from +30 str makes a difference. There are other alternatives, If I socket my gear and stuff it with IAS jewels Last Wish would be awesome too, but It's much more expensive and it will require me to relocate leech and IAS from the weapon to the other pieces of my gear.
Oath for now, botd in the distant future.
edit#2: I'm pvm only.

i prefer Grief over eBOTD, the average damage is better sense you always hit for about the same and the ITD works wonders, I use the zeal 1 point smite build and grief is king for the zeal/smite build
eBOTD is a mean weapon youd do just fine with that im sure there are just as many good arguements for that over grief
I've been thinking some more and now I'm leaning towards death. All it takes is me swapping some gear to Nosferatus and highlords and putting a 15% ias jool in my andariel's visage and I'm full speed again with 50% CB and about 45% DS. I'ts propably going to ultrapwn the ubers.

call me extremely weird but i like Passion Phase Blade on my zealot/smiter, heaven's light on switch
edit: i have 98% crushing blow from all my other gear so i dont really NEED a grief or something like that lol

i use stormlash, shael'd. no need for IAS from elsewhere. good dmg, CB, ctc static field. uber'd a lot with this but smiting all the way :)
i dont like runewords because good ones are too expensive lol
I think an eth Death zerker is a very great choice and preferable to a grief pb (why everyone uses pb, why not a zerker?) IF it's a real perfect one. That means ethereal, max dam and if possible 15% ed.
But like it has been said before, the weapon need to be fast and need to have high damage or give a good chance of crushing blow.

Zerk does have range, but pb has speed and indestructibility on its side.
Everyone pretty much covered all the good choices.

I think the speed is negligible. With a lev 27 fanaticism aura you only need 56% IAS to reach the 4fps. Grief itself gives up to 40%. So at best you only need to get 16% form your items.
With pb you have indestructibility but a zerker has a basic damage of 24-71 instead of 31-35. And you have a better range.

True, I was just stating why people generally use pb instead of zerk. I suppose another reason would be to keep their strength down since it takes 138 str to use a zerk. You're already looking to invest points into dex for max block so you'll get more points to put into vitality with pb than with zerk. Considering how the damage mod on grief factors in, the extra base median damage before pvp penalty and dr could be as negligable as the speed.
I think it's a manner of what a person feels comfortable with.
