Input on 2v2 on a budget (sort of)

Ok, so I have about 4000 HRs of currency to spend (on ESCNL) and I want to purchase/build two pvp chars for a 2v2 team for me and my friend to use.

The wealth was built over the summer during ladder reset and has no way of being replenished (don't want to bother with the trading game/I don't bot so I don't have fresh sources of items) so it is a strict cap. We are both at school so we won't be bothering to put in any more wealth.

While we both haven't dueled on BNET since 1.10, we've done a fair bit of LAN/TCP:IP while dueling with friends and so while we aren't exactly experts we have plenty of knowledge about PvP.

The characters will only be used in pubs (2v2/ 2 v all) and I've heard that ESCL is filled with modders/BM'ers so we've whittled it town to 4 combinations.

WW barb + Bone Nec
Windy + Bone Nec
Windy + Trapsin
WW barb + windy (gavel or lifetap switch :D)

In general (+ given the budget) what do you guys recommend?


Other combination suggestions are also welcome.

i would say that the overall best 2v2 teams are bvc/trapper, trapper/nec, and bvc/nec. the element of stun is quintessential in team duels. depending on who you're dueling, one will of course be better than the other.

if you're dueling a lot of paladins, trapper/nec team will be best.
if you're dueling a lot of assassins, nec/bvc will be best
if you're dueling a lot of casters, bvc/trapper will be best.

you should be able to get at least mediocre gear with 4000 HR; you'll definitely be able to hit the equip quality "threshold" where equipment imbalances stop really being an issue.

bvc will probably be the most expensive character to make, so the trapper/nec combo is probably the cheapest. it will also probably be the easiest 2v2 team to start off with, since you can be highly effective as a defensive team.

Of the combos you listed, my pick would be either Nec + Druid or Nec + Barb. I've played both parts of each combination, and personally wouldn't have it any other way for both gm 2v2 and pubstomping.f

Nec + Druid would probably be the best option of the two for you, considering the budget.
