I looked at the sticky, and was wondering if there were a better (i.e. more recent) guide to building a hammerdin than the Ragnarod one - that's only as of patch 1.10.

I've NEVER played a pally, of any type, and would have no idea where to start...

I made a guide about it 4 days ago (recent enough for you? ;)), with special focus on Magic Find.

You can read the whole thing here (http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=688736).

Except for the addition of torch, nothing really has changed since 1.10 as far as basic hammerdin builds are concerned :)

Include torch in your calculations, and if you decide to hit 125 fcr use spirit sacred targe with 35 fcr.

Basic cookie cutter hammer would most likely use hoto, shako, arach, enigma, waterwalks, spirit st 35 fcr, maras and 2 fcr rings or 2 paladin 10 fcr amulet fcr ring and soj/bk.

Basic skill layout would be all 1 point wonders, maxing blessed hammer and it's synergies and concentration, and then going for either holy shield (more defense) or resist lightning. The latter might be better for PvM.

uncle mike how u figure that res lightning will help in pvm when u dont use the aura at all? if u have conc on the entire time then res light would do u no good unless there is a hidden res bonus that it gives without using the aura

It gives you a passive bonus of 0.5% max resistance with each point invested. That's 85 lightning resistance without any max res gear once you invest 20 points into that aura.
