Right now im using a bered shako with a clean hoz and am wondering if i should just ber my hoz or get a 2 bered COA. if i do make the switch to coa, then ill have all my res maxed and i can change my 15 all res gc to 20 lifers and ill prolly put a 15 ias jewel in the hoz. what are the pros and cons of each setup? my life with bo is 4.3k.

I guess they are pretty clear... a little less DR with a shako, much more life/mana, and 1 extra skill.

CoA, much better resists, 1 less skill, a little more DR. I'd go with a Shako unless you are dueling a pub game with both physical and elemental opponents.

I think what rynke is trying to figure out, is what that Smiter's purpose is. Are you aiming for PvP, for allround PvM or for Ubers? The choice of helm would depend entirely on this.

This leads to two more questions.

1) How much % DR have you got from other item slots?
2) What is your stacked resists without headgear?

For PvP you'd want the maximum 50% DR, which CoA could help you reach if you haven't already. You'd also want a bootload of stacked resists, which CoA provides most of, of the two. Depending on your answers to those two questions, there's a good chance that CoA is the one to go for.

I've had a similar dillema with a hammerdin some time ago.

Both the above are viable helms, the problem with coa is it's huge str req - you could also consider using a ber -req jewel coa so that it only requires 148 str. You lose 8% dmg but save stats and you have freedom to switch for absorb/res jewelry.

That still gives you 31 dr (assuming 15 base dr CoA) with just helm and enigma. 39 with bere'd hoz or 46% with verdungo.

Don't forget about 30 fhr on CoA - it's a sweet mod that shako lacks.
