Hello to the necro community, for my entire D2 playing experience ive only played pallies but ive finally decided to try and play a necro for the first time. Now ive searched and read through various necro builds and from what ive seen its summoner for pvm and bone and poison for pvp. Now im looking to build a necro that will mostly pvm and maybe have a little fun in pvp every now and then. So id like some suggestions as to which type of necro would suit me best. Also id like to know if a bonemancer and poisonmancer is viable in hell pvm without insane gear and charms. Not that im poor but not rich enough to build a super godly necro yet.

I've always played Fishys, but I don't know if you can do PVP with them.
Maybe a Poisonmancer could do both. I wouldn't want to go through Hell with a Bonemancer.

I highly recommend trying out a bonemancer cause they excell at pvp and pvm
I have a lvl 87 bonemancer and beat hell without having any trouble
I havnt lost any fight yet...
Use bone spirit for pvp
Use bone spear for pvm
Bone prison and bone wall work nicely with pvp+pvm
You can use it to trap players or monster and finish them with BS
I always spam bone prison on all bosses i fought and they cant even touch me :)
Poisonmancer is a nice idea too but watch out for poison immunity..

Lightning Enchanted ones can be a pain because all the sparks kill the Bone Prisons pretty darned quickly...you have to be ready to recast quickly!
Anyway, got a Bonemancer all the way to Patriarch (playing Single Player). They're pretty darned safe, and there aren't many monsters that are Magic Immune so you don't have to worry about immunities overmuch...about the only time it'll be an issue is with the Wailing Beasts in the Act 3 temples, but a combo of Bone Prison + Iron Maiden + merc damage helps. (Ranged merc is better, because melee ones can't usually hit monsters that are Prisoned).
