So I managed to kill off a fishymancer (yeah, I know) and now I'm looking for a "safer" necro build.
What do you all think?
20 Raise Skel
20 Skel Mastery
1 Summon Resists
1 Revive
10 Corpse Explosion
20 Bone Wall
20 Dim Vision
1 in Decrep
1 in Life tap
Done at 93.
Is maxing bone wall and dim vision overkill? Should I just pick one of them and move the points back into CE? Are the other curses worth picking up if I have maxed dim vision (I won't be putting points into attract and lower resist)?

Depending on your gear, maxing DV might be overkill. If you've got a decent amount of +skills, ~10 hard points in DV will be sufficient. Basically, my goal with DV is to be able to cast it once and shut down the area just outside your screen before they spot you. Once you can accomplish that, extra points don't add much.
Extra points in Bone Wall are nice, but unless you plan to use the Arm of King Oops I Boneprisoned Myself, they probably aren't critical.
I generally max the standard summoner skills, then split the remaining points relatively evenly between DV, CE, and BW.
I don't see any reason to get Life Tap, unless you're going for Lower Resist, though.
Maxing dim vision depends on your items I guess. I was untwinked and most of my +skills were specifically for the summoning tree so I felt that it was a good move to dump 20 points into it. 20 points gives you a radius of roughly an entire screen which is pretty damn huge.
What's your reasoning behind life tap?

I've used life tap before to keep my merc alive, but I guess it isn't as important as I thought.

Heya,
I wouldn't use bonewall. Dim Vision is going to make everything seem like easy-mode. Use those 20 points to get a higher CE and maybe consider a 1 point golem and dump your points into golem mastery for a resummonable mobile tank.

Alright, so this would be my revised build:
20 dim vision
20 raise skel
20 skel mastery
20 ce
1 bone armor
1 clay golem
1 revive
1 summon resist
1 decrep
Should I go all vit (instead of max block) since DV will generally keep me safe? Anyone know if you can dim vision nithlak?

If you really want safer, that means taking heat off of you - that's readily and reliably accomplished by Skeleton Mages. They'll already benefit from the SM 'synergy' and your playstyle won't change significantly, assuming you're holding down DV. You tend to accumulate massive +skills.. really, 10 DV should be enough :)
20 Raise skeleton
20 Raise skeleton mage
20 Skeleton Mastery
20 Corpse explosion
10 Dim Vision
1 revive, decrep, summon res, golem etc.
I'm a fan of bone wall or bone prison, gives the bone armor ~400 life.
On bosses, decrepify and a clay golem slow them to a crawl. I'm pretty sure diablo doesn't use his lightning and baal doesn't cast his ice beam when slowed enough. But if they do, you can watch frame by frame as they do their animations, and think 'oh, maybe I should move now'. Also really helps with keeping your merc alive...
