View Full Version : Fishymancer gear to rush hell?
I'm making a fishymancer to rush hell with, as it seems to be the cheapest option. I know enigma is a *must* for someone who has to rush, but what about the other equipment? I already have shako, arm of leoric, homunculus, and magefists. What else should I look for if i want to be able to rush hell? Also, are there any cheap options for a merc?
anything worth under a mal is viable, and I know I'm going to have to work like crazy to get that enigma :)
I am curious about the merc options. I have him with a crappy insight weapon, but getting close to just making an IG out of that and giving my merc the Viperfork I recently looted.

I am sure you will have to max out resists, specially lighting, if your mana regen is slow use an insight on an IG or on your merc, Obedience is a cheap runeword for a good CB weapon for your merc.
You could get some cheap marrowalks, arachnid is around Ist value or
You can use this until you get an enigma:

You are definitely strong enough to already rush in my opinion. Not the fastest in an area like chaos sanc or on baal's minions, but otherwise you should be fine. Cheap merc set-ups include things like Vamp Gaze (or Crown of Thieves, cheaper), Insight or Obedience runewords (some useable eth uniques might actually cost more that these two dirt cheap ones), and any decent armor, like shaftstop, guardian angel, etc.

Yea I think with his setup he is missing maxed resists atm though, but hes def able to rush hell, not the fastest if he doesn't have tele :whistling:
My build, and budget alternatives:
Helm: Um Shako
Budget: Shako shouldn't be too expensive and there aren't many good alternatives, but anything with +skills is great
Amulet: Mara's
Budget: Anything with skills, life, resists. A magic ammy with +3 Summoning tree and up to 100 life is possible.
Armor: Enigma in a light armor (you won't have enough defense to protect you in hell, you max-block anyway, and the +def is not based on base def. use a light armor so you can equip it easily without pumping str, and use the +str mod to let you equip anything heavier, such as marrowwalks)
Budget: For casual play you can afford to walk, but you need teleport to rush quickly.
Main Weapon: Heart of the Oak
Budget: A good +skills wand could work, but you might look for a low resists HOTO, which should be cheap. The FCR and +all skills mod on HOTO make teleporting faster, which is significant for fast rushing
Main Shield: Um Homunculus (I always go max-block)
Alt. Main Shield: Spirit Monarch (more FCR and FHR, generic +skills good for Teleport)
Budget: Lidless Wall, Splendor, Rhyme. Anything with resists and/or skills. Homunculus gives both, lets you max-block, and isn't too expensive.
Switch Weapon: Beast in a low-strength Axe
Budget Switch Weapon: None. Work on getting good main gear first before worrying about the switch.
Switch Shield: Same as main shield
Rings: Stones of Jordan
Budget: Magic/rare 10% FCR rings if you need more FCR. You want 75+ FCR to hit a 10-frame teleport.
Belt: Arachnid Mesh
Budget: Credendum, Tal Rasha's, Bladebuckle for FHR, etc. look for anything that shores up a lacking area of your build
Gloves: Trang Oul's
Budget: Trang's is budget, but Magefist works too. Remember that you really want that 80% total FCR for fast teleporting when rushing.
Boots: Hotspur (yes, seriously)
Alt. Boots: Marrowwalks (17 Dex helps with Block)
Budget: Hotspur is budget! Rare boots with whatever resist you need help with is also good. FRW is not very important because of Enigma, which gives both Teleport and FRW.
Summary: You want three things from your equipment, fast teleporting for fast rushes, resists+blocking to help you survive, and +skills to boost your summons. Some slots such as Armor, Helm, Weapon, and Shield are important enough to be considered "must haves" IMO and should be your first goals when crafting/trading for end-game equipment. Other slots such as Boots and Jewelry can be switched around to give you what you're lacking the most.
My Iron Golem is an Insight Polearm to power my maxed-out Corpse Explosion and Teleport. Keep all the 4-sock poles and Sol runes that you find to make Golems. It is cheap and frees up your merc to use a more appropriate weapon, e.g. Obedience on a budget, or Infinity in the ideal case.

why hotspurs... wtf?

Compared to maxed resists, this offers a further 60% reduction in fire damage (25% to 10%). It lets you be much more brazen in the face of fire attacks.
Plus, Marrowwalk isn't that great. It has several mildly useful skills, but nothing like the ability that reads "stand in a firewall without breaking a sweat." The up to 20 Str goes totally unused. The 17 Dex goes from blocking into Vitality, and is thus worth 34 life. Mana/Stamina/FRW/Half Freeze are all nice, but hardly essential as we're casting and teleporting more so than swinging and walking like a barbarian. Lastly, +2 to a single skill... ok, but not great.
Don't get me wrong, I've got both of Hotspur and Marrowwalk and switch them off, but when the going gets tough, the tough get tougher with +Max Resists.
Anyway, Hotspur's a kick-*** budget item. =)
