I like the idea of a demon protagonist if only because it would cement the whole idea that the lines between good and evil are blurring, which would make for a pretty interesting game. However I'm not sure it'll go that way to that extent, I think the player characters are likely to stay human. Alchemist and desert warrior are interesting ideas too, though the alchemist (as I'd imagine it) is fairly similar to witch doctor. The more I think about it, a warrior from the deserts would fit right in, as paladins in D2 were simply holy warriors from Kurast.
There'd be some irony if we could play characters that looked like act 2 mercs from D2 :D.
As for classes that I'd like to see: definitely an archer of some kind, definitely a stealth class (like assassin, or thieves in D&D), and hopefully either pro-group skills for most classes, or a group-centric class like Paladin was in D2. Maybe the alchemist could be a powerful support / ranged class (potion flinging!).

yeah, i'd like a stealth assassin with invisible skills n attacks. pass through mobs without being detected. maybe also new weapons like knuckles. i'd also like an angel maybe in human form... can't think of what skills he/she might possibly have though. the power of the heavens constrained by the human body..

Egyption Warrior is from Egypt, Earth. Not Sanctuary. But there could be a "wierd fighter" just as the paladin in original d2 release with the barb being the "pure fighter". There was also a "wierd mage", the necro, whereas the sorc was a "pure mage"
AlexanderM,
I figgure they would have to blend a bow expert and theif into one chr. They only have 3 slots remaining for chr's...
But then again, they recently said there won't be any more returning d1-2 heros. So if not the rogue, then what??

@stillman
my bad.. correction: "desert" or "weird" fighter. are they really only having 5 characters for d3. for me, thats too little and would lack versatility and choices to choose from. are they planning to add more chrs for an expansion??
I'm convinced that they'll add atleast 2 more chars in an expansion. No doubt.

it would be nice if the monk returns, i'm itchin for one exceptional soloing class...::cloud9:
Something tells me we'll see a revamp to a monk type class...its not something Blizzard has done all that often (not since the expac for D1)
Me, I’d like to see something totally unique to the Diablo world...something like a Machinist, I’m thinking, part wowtype engineer part Mechanical based necromancer type char
i'd like to see the class be the replacement of the phys. ranged class. Using Guns are the obvious way to do this but there are other things that could be done as well, if you're not a fan of guns. (many aren't)
talent trees could be something along the lines of:
-Bot mechanics-(dismantle items and build parts into pet bots)
-explosives- things that go boom(looks like the witchdoctor is gonna have the market cornered on this one:doh:)
-Tools-Create your own trinkets usable in conjunction with your main weapon(in combat you could slap on a trink to give a unique effect to a particular weapon)
these are all just generic ideas naturally, I’m not the creative type but I think Blizz devs could do a good job with something like that.

it's been speculated on in the character skills thread. but a hunter would easily combine skills from varying classes in d2.
traps and archery being the first 2 skill trees some form of shifting, camoflage, nature, or other passive only skill tree being the 3rd.
This might be extreme, but I would like to see a futuristic soldier and maybe a Shaolin Monk.
Ive posted this somewhere, but I would want a shield based character (can fight with his shield).
perhaps a zealous holy warrior who kind of looks like the judges from Chronicles of Riddick.

Speaking of Riddick, I love a guy who kills with his teacup. Let's have a guy/gal who is great with fighting with items you don't normally regard as weapons, like table legs, but paradoxically weak with real weapons.
Alternately let's have a guy who was originally a mercenary in D2: a desert fighter. Special move: Whirling Dervish. But unlike Barbie's whirlwind, it's done as a meditation/healing effect.

Nuff said
How about a cleric character/summoner (kind of like Yuna from ffx but with better voice acting).
shadow warrior? sounds like assasin... blah
how about a monster type hero; like... a goblin character... or some other kind of monster turned good (I know you guys already suggested but I wanted to be cool and say it again :scratchchin:).
I also like the idea of angelic human... fallen angel?
sharp shooter? sniper type character? heavy direct damage to one target? I'd never play it but i feel like it would fit with the right skills (piercing shots etc)
what about the men in the amazon communities? surely they exist and play some role... they are obviously not the same as amazons, what would they be called?
How about a witch/warlock character? I know we have the wizard, but a witch is kind of different - has a darkness about her/him.
OOH BEST IDEA! HOW ABOUT A JIG CHARACTER CLASS! :jig: I would pick him!

Barbarian has an entire skill tree devoted to using a one handed weapon and shield.

They eat, sleep and have sex. Doesn't really look a good warrior unless you want to sex someone to dead...
P.S. I want something that can substitute for the amazon. And no, shapeshifting and bow skills don't align. You can't shoot a bow when in bear mode, and shifting back is to much of a struggle making it uninteresting as a mele/ranged character combined.

Maybe so, but doesn't sound lika an all bad life. :whistling: can we throw in a good internet connection while we're at it? Something to do while the lady is out hunting demons...

Here is what wiki says about poor males who got in contact with the amazons :hang:
In some versions of the myth, no men were permitted to have sexual encounters or reside in Amazon country; but once a year, in order to prevent their race from dying out, they visited the Gargareans, a neighbouring tribe. The male children who were the result of these visits were either killed, or sent back to their fathers or exposed in the wilderness to fend for themselves; the females were kept and brought up by their mothers, and trained in agricultural pursuits, hunting, and the art of war.

Totally agree, either a shape shifting class or a bow using class, they should be kept separate.
Speaking of a shape shifting class, we can have a Monk who uses gauntlets as weapons and can shape shift into different creatures probably resembling some of the Kung Fu school animal representations [ monkey / snake / tiger/ crane / ... etc etc ]
-Half Human/Half Tiger [+40 to Critical attacks/Battle Roars]
-Half Human/Half Snake [Poison attacks and immunity/speed boost]
-Half human/Half Monkey [Can throw enemies at each other/Summon a Monkey legion that attacks enemies and collects fallen items]
That could be an interesting character IMO

I think the idea of a demon character is great. He would need to be a mid level demon, not a Primus like The Brother's Three. His motive would be in line with the story line...destroy the three so he can reign in Hell and lead the charge on the gates of Heaven. You can change a demons motivations and methods but not his nature and ultimate goals. His cooperation with humanity is only a tentative one, a means to an end so to speak. If he truly had his way he would do away with every human in existence but for now is biding his time as he kills the lesser demons and their minions with gusto...seeing them as sheep for the Three Primus.
I see some talk of a new shape-shifter class. I think we definitely need one. I loved playing as a werewolf in D2, just wish it was better implemented. What I mean by that, raw damage of melee attacks should have been prime.
I think that if they do a druid-like class, they could institute a "tattoo system" where instead of spirits/sages that are external, the tattoos would be totems/symbols of power inked into his flesh that give him a boost to his strength, agility, attack/movement speed, elemental/physical resistances etc etc. These would be passive of course.

A demon character could run along the lines of the Khazra (Goat Men), who were once human but were transformed into demon slaves by the Vizjerei.
Maybe the Primes twisted and transformed a man into a demon, and now the demon-man wants to take vengeance.

I could see so many things in D3. I mean, looking back at past Diablo games
-I would want to see the monk braught back, but more barefisted this time,
-I want to see a new twist on the archer, maybe a holly archer or something.
-And most of all I want to see a heavy lancer class with good spear mechanics and animation.
-A straight shapeshifter would be nice, not someone who just shape shifts, but I mean something more then wolf and bear.
-A decent elementalist, like lets say someone with elemental based summons, transformations, auras, spells, straight elemental stuff
-Some sort of darker charecter but one who is not evil. Like the Vampire Hunter archetype, dark, twisted, strangly armed and dressed, but ultimatly good.
-So many other things, come on expansions

I like these kind of threads, the odds of inspiring someone at Blizzard is close to zero. But it's still fun to come up with ideas.
Was a nice thread for this back before DIII was official. My suggestion then was an Alchemist/Metallurge http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6521980&postcount=114
taking a quite unique hybrid role while still not being too far off lore-wise.
i want to see a tyrael character. that would be so cool. especially to if it were to be balanced with a playably warrior from the pits of hell. a angel who need to earn his wings paired with a deamon class whom were thrown from their ranks from the return of diablo. i smell a sitcom.
also megatron should make a cameo.

Phew. You had me worried there for a second.
