Today Metallica's first studio produced song in 5 years ( since St Anger came out ) will debut . Ironically the song is called the Day That Never Comes .. I'm sure it will hit Youtube at some point and can be heard on www.metallica.com as well .. Im looking forward to it because it's a return to the old school thrashier style Metallica I loved so much growing up .. I'll post a link to it if someone dont beat me to it when its available ..

Here's a few snipets of songs they are working on ..
www.metallica.com/inde...tem=601104

Here's them making the video but they dont give away much of the song ..

Well Australia seems to be the only place able to download the tune from ITunes.com so far . It's out there but still waiting for an Mp3 to surface . Iv'e heard it's a return to Old Metallica form in the vein of One / Sanitarium , in that it starts off slow and melodic and ends thrashy and hard with lots of clean solo's ... Metallica.com has gone down already due to over use ..

The link doesn't work, but I'm sure people can find the song somewhere else. :) (From metallica.com or from the bay I can't post a link which has it in much better quality.)

Edit: After I've heard the song a couple of times, I can say that I'm positively surprised. It reminds me a bit of And justice for all and black album; and black album in a good way. The sense of style of the song is great, and I like especially the ending. The only thing I dislike about the song is James' vocals; they're not bad, but he hasn't the attitude he used to have.

But I guess I can give him a break, taking into account his age. :)

Ooops that was just a link to www.metallica.com I posted above but I failed you all .. Anyways here's the lyrics . I really like this song after a few listens , that ending is killer ..

====================================

Born to push you around
better just stay down
you pull away
he hits the flesh
you hit the ground

mouth so full of lies
tend to block your eyes
just keep them closed
keep praying
just keep (a)waiting

waiting for the one
the day that never comes
when they stand up and feel the warmth
but the sunshine never comes, no
no, the sunshine never comes

push you cross that line
just stay down this time
hide in yourself
crawl in yourself
you'll have your time

God I'll make them pay
take it back one day
I'll end this day
I'll splatter color on this grave

waiting for the one
the day that never comes
when they stand up and feel the warmth
but the sunshine never comes

love is a four letter word
and never spoken in care
love is a four letter word
here in this prison

I suffer this no longer
I put it into
this I swear
this I swear
the sun will shine
this I swear
this I swear
this I swear

And here's the third song released today called My Apocalypse .. This is the closests to Old School Metallica I have heard in a long time .. Pretty decent tune Imo .. Suppossed to get 2 more songs before the album comes out Sept 12th ...

Lyrics ---
Claustrophobic, Crawl out of this skin
High Explosive, Reach and pull that pin
Fear Thy Name: Extermination
Desecrating hail of fire

So we cross that line
Into the crypt; Total eclipse
Suffer unto My Apocalypse

Deadly Vision, Prophecy reveal
Death Magnetic, Pulling closer still
Fear Thy Name: Annihilation
Desolating hail of fire

So we cross that line
into the crypt; total eclypse
Suffer unto My Apocalypse

My Apocalypse

Crushing Metal ripping skin
Tossing body manequins
Spilling blood bleeding gas

Mangled flesh snapping spines
Dripping bloody valentine
shattered face spitting glass

Split apart
Split apart
Split apart
Split

Spit it out

What makes me drift a little bit closer
Dead man takes the steering wheel
What makes me know what time to cross over
Want to repeat until i feel

See thru the skin the bones they are rattled
Future and past that disagree
Flesh falls away the bones they all shatter
Pass time to see the end in me

See the end in me

Claustrophobic, climb out of this skin
High explosive, Reach and pull that pin

Violate; annihilate
lose into my eyes
Obliterate; exterminate
If not accept; deny

Fear thy name as hell awakens
Destiny in hail of fire

So we cross that line
Into the crypt; total eclypse
Suffer unto my apocalypse

Tyrants awake in my apocalypse
Demon awake in my apocalypse
Heaven awake in my apocalypse
Suffer forever my apocalypse

Not a big fan of most Metallica

post Master of puppets. IMO that was the high water mark of heavy metal and might never be reached again by any band.

Agree totally with the guy who complained about the vocals on the day. Compare it to early Metallica and I'm sorry but James sounds like a wuss in this song. I wanted to like it but nah. I had to listen to Master of puppets just to get the foul after-sound out of my ears.

can't comment on the other songs since I haven't had the desire to listen to them.

Metallica used to be my favorite band as well until LOAD hit the shelves ..

I hated that period from Load until around St Anger ... So basically everything since TBA which i didnt really like at first listen but it grew on me ..

I can now listen to LOAD and appreciate it for what it is . I never bought Re=Load , SnM , or that Other Live album Garage Inc ...

This My Apocalypse song is pretty kickass Imo and the best thing since AJFA .. I heard elements of all the other albums in these first 3 songs and 2 more will be released before Sept 12 ...

Death Magnetic leaked yesterday .. I couldnt resist the urge to hear it so I had to download the album even though it due out on the 12th .. After listening to it about 3 times now Im really impressed .. This is what St Anger should have been .. Its really good and sounds a lot like old school Metallica .. The 3 songs they released prior to the leak are not even the best songs on the album ..

If anyone has a Megaupload account and wants to hear it let me know and I'll sned ya PM ..

Metallica has long been my favorite band too. When I was kid, the first cd I bought (saving up lunch money and collecting change) was the Black album.

I'm a bit of a metallica fan oddity, in the respect that I like all the albums, with St Anger being my least favorite. The S&M I think was some of the bands best work. I'd have loved to see that show. Such a powerful sound !

Favorite tune by metallica?

Orion (the instumental)
One, Sanitarium rank up there for me too. I'm excited about this new work.

I can even play the majority of their stuff on both guitar and bass and when I really want to get funky, I can do the guitar stuff on bass too :alright:

After I've heard the album a few times, I think its mediocre at best. Sure, its not bad - but I expected more - and my expectations weren't on the level of master of puppets.

It feels like they're trying to please too many people, and they get confused by doing that (and also the listener gets confused as the entity suffers from it).

Trapped under ice, Fade to black, The four horsemen, Disposable heroes get my vote today for the best Metallica songs. :P

My thoughts were the exact opposite :P
I were very sceptical towards the new album, and my expectations were close to 0... And I'm very positively surprised by Death Magnetic =)

Trapped under ice, Fade to black, The four horsemen, Disposable heroes get my vote today for the best Metallica songs. :P
Love all of them

My favourite is for whom the bell tolls :)

Bad, bad, it's all bad. Not quite as awful as St. Anger but that's not saying much.

They need to stop coming out with albums before I kill myself.

Sincerely,

an OLD metallica fan

p.s. "That Was Just Your Life" makes me want to hurt kittens.

So the new Coldplay album is pretty cool. I've only heard this one song; Viva La Vida - but that's pretty damn well done.

Ahahaha in your face Metallica fans!

a) Metallica are over-rated
b) People like Metallica because it's 'cool'
c) Why the **** is this in the hardcore section? :S

I just heard a couple of songs from the new album. Although there is some old school trash in it, the album is kind of boring. Especially Lars, his drumming is one big

The newest Slipknot album kicks my ***.

If you like old school Metallica give it a listen. I have napster so I don't know if you can hear it any other place without buying it. I mean... It's called 'All Hope is Gone'

maybe the title refers to Metallica hmmm...

Yup, that too. The HC forum is as much a place to discuss HC as it is to discuss other matters related to HC, and HC play. Music is one thing that is very improtant... after all... what's a good HC death without a proper tune...
*wanders off to his CD-player and tunes in to "Only the Good die Young"...*

I like to listen to Converge while slaying monsters. It's pretty intense music, but also soothing for me. Hitting "Random" is fun, if you've got a huge list of stuff. WinAmp has some nifty techno beat stations that will play forever. Those can help one zone out whilst doing MF runs.

Laff to whoever mentioned Napster. You can listen to the songs on the Metallica website. Not that I want to. Metallica lived and died when I bought Master of Puppets. They've got other cool songs, but other songs in the golden era don't seem worth purchasing when I've got the same sounds on MoP.

And to add to other nooblits that haven't been here to long; Y iz this heer?!!?@22
