View Full Version : What is the max damage you can put on a charger?
What inspired me to ask was this picture:

You'll notice that Clone died so fast that the spawn message is still on the screen... which is much faster than one can do with smite and crushing blow.
All I can see is a Phoenix redemption aura below and the chilling armor from fortitude. Any good number buffs able to help shed light?

If I remember correctly then you can't have that much damage to kill him with one hit, since damage gets rerolled at some point (meaning if you reach to some point in damage numbers, then it's nullified and you do only the damage what exceeds the number). That is for purely 1 hit damage and not for timered damage, like poison.

Hmm, you cannot knock back act bosses and übers and I'm not sure if charge works at all if you don't have a running start (so you would do a regular attack instead) - I never really used charge, so I don't know. I guess you can kill Über D in 20 seconds or less with smite+CB+lifetap, so if you are quick with spawning a superunique after the "Diablo walks the earth" message, it might be possible to kill him like that with the message still being on screen.
The screenshot is a bit small, so I cannot exactly see if the paladin is using a shield and which weapon he wears, to find out if that's really a charger. Maybe he just switched to secondary weapons.
@Isgarath: I know what you mean, and I suppose it took more than one charge to get the job done.
@krischan: On second look, It is actually hard to tell if that is Fanat or Redemption below his feet. I am leaning toward Redemption - and if so, then he's definitely using a shield (which seems clear to me from the character himself).
It looks like he is either wearing a circlet or some form of a cap, though it's probably a rare circlet with some %ED and visionary (%AR/lvl) mod on it.
Any guesses to what the weapon would be? Death runeword? Grief?
You can do a maximum of I think 67000 damage per element per frame. If you use vegeance where the elements do 50000 damage each you'll still do full damage, and if you have poison which does 1250000 damage over a second that's still only 50000 damage per frame so that also gets full damage
I think the charger first smited uber d and used cb to get his life to low amounts then finished him off with charge
How viable would Vengeance be? Seems easier to gear than a charger, to an extent (although mixing facets and the like between Light and Fire would be tricky).
I guess his resists aren't all that high according to arreat summit:
110 Fire, 75 the rest.

The aure is probably redemption (see the curved line to his right) and it comes from an item while his native aura is fanaticism. If it's a charger, it might also be Phoenix in a two-handed weapon.
I find it a bit strange that he has not assigned a key to the charge skill. Every paladin has charge, either as the main attack skill or as a prereq for HS, so every paladin can switch to it. Maybe it's a fake screenshot.
Maybe not, it was probably geared solely to do Diablo clone. It's possible he never uses it except to show-off on getting charms, and his only other skill in that case would be the HS prereqs, which include smite or charge - which in this case would have no use for other hotkeys.
Although Phoenix in a two handed weapon is interesting, I have doubts that a two-handed Phoenix could beat a two-handed ebotd. I think the only reason he'd use phoenix is in a shield. The shield seems clear to me if you look close enough.
Yes, he used a phoenix shield. It gives up to 400% off-weapon ed, so...
