View Full Version : Those blasted bugged vipers...

It's time for one of those threads again. Tonight I had my first bad experience with the vipers in the halls of vaught... unfortunately it was also my last.

A Viper that I somehow missed with Dim Vision snuck up on me and proceeded to javalin me at point blank. "No need to panic" I thought to myself, "just don't move and you'll be safe" just like I've done plenty of times before. Well this time I wasn't safe. This time I got hit and hit hard. :) I probably would have been able to save myself since I had a full belt of rejuvs but since I wasn't expecting to take damage, I hesitated just a second too long. So what gives? What do you think caused me to take the damage? Does block animation cause it to happen? If some of my minions got hit by the bugged damage, could it cause me to get hit too?

Post your positive and negative experiences for the hauls of vaught in this thread. :D

I usually don't visit the Halls unless I'm outfitted with 30-50 PDR.

I don't take my necromancers down there. Too little life and the poison clouds eat right through minions at light speed.

My guess would be that one of the vipers charged you, which caused you to get knocked back.

My second guess would be that there was latency involved and server side it hadn't decided that you were "still" yet, which resulted in you taking damage for some amount of time.

I'm with myk in that I think its foolhardy to go to the HoV without 30pdr at least. Preferably more.

There was just the 1 viper near by so it could have been a latency issue, I guess this is me learning my lesson the hard way. I'd never really encountered any problems running Dkeys until today, besides the odd occurrence of my merc + skellies + revives all suiciding into a single javalin, I was actually in the process of building a conc barb as a side project, who'd eventually take over the job of Dkey running. I guess he's my main character now. :D Loosing 2 skelliemancers in hardcore feels pretty embarrassing.

Loosing 2 skelliemancers in hardcore feels pretty embarrassing.
My first one was in S1. He died to the super unique pack in the A1 jail in NM. At 65. That's right, I kept him in normal until 65 (it really isn't that slow honestly, least not back then when there so many more 8 player games to solo in) and still managed to die in NM A1.

My second one was also S1, classic. He died in the mid 40s. Back in those days, as Xey would attest if he were still here, I had a VERY terrible computer that would throw me unhandled access violation errors every 20-30 minutes. The fun thing about these errors is that they left game.exe running but crashed the gui. So not only would you be in the game long enough to time out, but you'd also have to hit "ok" on the error followed by "ctrl+alt+del", find game.exe, and end process it before the time out could begin. As mentioned, mid 40s, A4 hell, right at the end of the RoF/start of the CS. I walk ahead to advance minions, see OKs fire projectiles at me from in the CS, error pops up, come back to a ghost.

I lost another one at high 60s/low 70s doing a NM baal walk in S3. Walk forward to advance the army, snakes, POW, dead.

And I think there might have been a 4th in there somewhere.

Minus the mid 40 one I just leveled as a glitcher this season, I've killed every single summoner I've ever made. Funny thing is, the one bonecro I made hit 92... he still died to a freak accident though. When relying on Dim Vision, don't stand in point blank range of the many cursed birdies when someone in the baal run has a reapers merc ~_~

And it's not like I'm bad at HC either. It's just that summoners are a trap.

I'm with the 30+ PDR party.

Although, with a Barb, it doesn't matter to much due to Howl, high life, and no immunity problem. My current D Key runner is a Zerker with I think only 23ish PDR from a Sol'd Glads. I still feel them, but with 3.7kish life, not so much.

But yeah, summoners can work well for Nihla, and Vipers don't bother me since I use Attract alot, its more Nihla stray CE that I fear unless i'm packing BO.

Really though, if you know how to run Nihla (Or I suppose have a proper build for it), he isn't as hard as alot of people make him out to be. But I guess the fact that I am used to running him with either a Barb, or porting Hdin changes that fact a bit.

Definitely with the PDR chorus, I wouldn't go there any other way. My IK Barb key runner last season had a little over 40 PDR and the vipers weren't much trouble at all really. They could hurt, but never once got in any danger and ran Nihili a ton.

I set up my mf sorc with around 50 dr and that, comined with a 50% eshield, maxed telekinesis, outside bo, and a reaper's on my merc, could stand afk in a pack of physical monsters for a really long time. Of course, I miss out of mf having Sol rules in my Shako and Skullder's, but after 400 I don't see the point of stressing.

That is just so true - Dying when you still got rejuves in your bet makes me want to eat my keyboard!
