D2 in Glide

I've managed to fix d2 from crashing on me in a rather odd way. My machine randomly freezes on me whenever I play D2 and has caused deeds at least once.

All other games work a treat, only D2 crashes. Re-installation did not solve the problem either, nor which graphics mode I tried. I've got a fix from an unlikely source. I was reading up on the Asus eee pc901 which I WILL be buying as soon as I can find a stockist (even Amazon have a 3 week waiting list), it's soooo cute, gib now!

I quite fancied getting the Linux version and teaching myself Linux whilst I was at it. Then came the question does D2 run on Linux? After reading the articles, yes it does.

I also found an article that allows you to play D2 using a 3dfx (remember them?) glide wrapper. I've tried it and I'm using it and my D2 no longer crashes.

D3D was always jerkovision on my nvidia 9600GT so I usually played in software mode. Now that I'm using this glide wrapper my D2 gaming is silky smooth and crash free! hoorah :thumbup:

If the admins allow it I will post the URL of the site that I got it from. The wrapper was written specifically for D2 so it will not work on other games. The only downside is that I cannot alt-tab out of the game but that's no great loss.

Thought I would spread the love in case anyone else has a similar problem.

I use it, it works goood. I don't think it's against the rules, I've seen it posted in the community forum before.

It took a little bit for me to understand the settings but I've found some that work just gerat. Yes, gerat!

And good luck finding one of those little laptop thingers. I wanted one a few months ago, but it wouldn't make sense for me to get one right now. Was there a reason for getting the eee over the MSI WIND? I think I remember the MSI unit being a little superior, it's been a while, though, I could be lying.

Ooh, alt-tab does work!

The MSI does not have a divider on the mouse button and from the reviews I've read people were accidentally clicking the wrong mouse button (i.e left when they wanted right). The eee has a separator which rules out the accidental or wrong clicks. With my sausage fingers that would annoy me so it's the eee which gets my vote. Did I say that it was cute? Lubberly wubbley eee, cutsey wutsey, gib eee now! Coochey coo!

The Glide Wrapper was Ok'd by Blizzard. It's in a couple of the Stickies (certainly the SPF one) and I use it myself. It is excellent for newer cards.
