Hi all. I'm working on a Concentrate Barb and I'm looking ahead to see what kind of damage I can get with kinda crappy gear.

First off, I'm going 2-handed, so since I don't have a shield I plan on putting maybe ten points into War Cry. So here's the absolute certain skill points I plan on investing:

20 Concentrate
20 Battle Orders
10 War Cry
10 Mastery
1 Beserk, prereqs and the 4 passive masteries

So here's the deal. I want to maximize damage from here, so I'd like to be able to crunch some numbers.

The other synergy for Conc is Bash, which adds 5% skill damage. After slvl 10 weapon mastery adds 5% to all attacks, plus some AR and a minute chance for critical. So obviously, max the mastery before Bash.

HOWEVER, I've been looking at the idea of maxing Berserk as a synergy to Conc. But I need to know how to calculate what the total damage will be with AND without it, and I don't know the order of operations. Can anyone hook me up with some formulae?

And if you wanna plug in some info (so I can see it in action), assume:
the weapon's average damage is 150
str after modifiers is 200 (so 3x damage)
mastery adds +73% (with 10 hard skills)
and max Conc/BO gives +370% skill damage.
AND Berserk adds +20%, not converts it, but I don't know if that's 20% of total damage or simply weapon damage.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
...Now that we're all swimming in numbers, can anyone sort it out? Thanks in advance!

as far as I know, with the numbers you provided you'd get

150 base + 150 x (2.0 str bonus + 0.73 mastery + 3.70 conc/BO) = 1115 physical average dmg.
Then 20 skill points in berserk will break it down to 892 physical and 223 magic damage (where 223 is 20% of 1115).

The effect is 20% less leech (which is minor I think), a way to kill physical immune monsters at about 25% rate, and a general increase in damage to normal monsters who have resistance to physical damage.

If you take a hell monster with 25% reistance to physical, then 1115 physical will do 836 dmg to him, while 892 physical+223 magic would do 892 dmg! only about 7% more.

I wouldn't recommend raising berserk for that. Instead I would advise to invest slightly less into concentration/warcry/mastery, place extra 10 points into Shout and 1 point in Berserk. Then use berserk to deal with physical immunes, and the extra defence from shout will compensate nicely for the very slight loss in concentrate dmg/ar/defence.

there aren't enough physical immunes around to warrant spending points on a berserk synergy, just use level 1 berserk itself and hit them directly

Thanks for the replies, guys. Much appreciated.

Unlike Magic Arrow that explicitly states that physical damage is converted to magical, Concentrate synergized with Berserk says it adds damage. One person in the SPF said it added, as well, but apparently that isn't the case. I'm highly disappointed, really.

Hooray for 1-point wonders. Now I'll have to find somewhere else to drop skill points, and I'm not at all interested in Shout. ...Maybe I'll max War Cry for long stun periods. Since I'm going 2-handed with less-than-stellar gear, it'll be a slow attack, so I'll be able to attack more the less I have to recast WC.

We'll see. Again, thanks!!

I recomend keeping war cry at 1, or not getting it at all. You'll have sky high defense, and BO etc.

Then max shout too. Synergy to berzerk and even more defense, and longer BO and BC duration.

Then rest in bash.

The berzerk synergy is small. Find out how much a hundreth of your damage WITHOUT OFF-WEAPON ED is. Basically, (the base weapon damage + non-percentual damage boost from items like war travs) x weapon ed x 0,01

That will be the magic damage you get from berzerk. If you're wielding an etheral botd berzerker axe you won't even be near getting 10 damage/point
