Nice merc weapon

What is a good merc weapon for my level 73 act2 defensive merc to use? The weapon he uses right now is pretty bad, but slows the enemy to 50 percent so thats def a plus.

I've always though the "best" merc wep was something that meshed well with what your character build is. Something you didnt mention in the post.

Best always falls under what resources you have.
What your going to want is decent damage, life leach speed/dr

Insight is always a strong pick from level 27 on (just upgrd the base). Has decent damage, the mana is Hawt. If you pick this wep, try tasting the prayer merc with it. The life regen is nuts!

Obediance is top notch, massive massive damage including fire, fairly easy to make. Did I mention it puts out the hurt? Also has cb/res and defense on it, something your defiance merc can benefit from.

Bonehew, eth is better but a regular one will do just fine. Depending on hat and armor , you'll want sheals/amn's in this badboy.

Kelpie's Snare, Up'd if your feeling nifty. Has good damage and the slow is fabulous!

Tomb Reaver, great damage and speed, has some res and up to 3 sockets to play around with. Good for mf'ers. A non eth one isnt hard to obtain.

Hone Sudan Yari , This thing is amazing if eth and has 3 sockets to mess around with too. Huge cb, good speed and damage. Cant be forgotten

Reaper toll , IMO one the best merc wep's in the game with good damage, life leach and decrep. If your using a dr setup on your character )or merc) he'll tank like mad. , I'd pair it up with Gface and treachory armor.

Crecent moon/Rift are great options depending on your characters build. A vor/conviction pally can clean house with a rift merc!

Ebotd/Infinnity = obviously the expensive choice, but cant be fogotten.

My personal favorite "affordable" Act II merc weapon is Obedience runeword (Hel-Ko-Thul-Eth-Fal), especially if you can put it in an ethereal polearm. My frenzy barb's Act II defiance merc has an ethereal obedience thresher and his survivability is very good.

Try for an Obedience in an eth Thresher. It gets 5 sockets from Larzuk, so take advantage of that. Hell, he might out damage you with it.

I made a hunter druid last season, I did around 2500-3K with the faith bow, the merc did like 3-13K and the bear wasn't far behind this either. This is to say nothing of the fact that they both attacked faster then I, and the merc also had deadly strike and Cb from Gface. Needless to say , I was the walking aura and general merc for them. I always thought it would be entertaining to have an Ai curse that temporarily converts ones merc against them (. I so would have gotten pwned if my merc turned against me.

I could see that being both hilariously fun, and rage-inducing horrible.

I second this. He provides a great list of potential merc weapons, but without knowing what you're playing giving you the best advice is tricky.

One can almost say:

if your a caster who burns through mana use Insight

If you need mostly damage for immunes then Obediance is amazing

if your a pdr setup or need pi's broken, Reapers toll.

If your the Hardcore orb/tk mf build go for eth up'd Kelpies
