View Full Version : Can a rare be better than botd?

I thought to myself how the perfect rare weapon would be.

Would it be this?

Etheral berzerker axe

Prefixes:

Cruel - 300% ed
Master's - 150% ed and +300 ar
Mechanic's - adds 2 sockets

Suffixes:

Quickness - 40% ias
Fast repair - Repairs 1 durability in 20 seconds
Lamprey - 9% life leech

Would this be the best case scenario? Would it be better if it had the slaughter suffix instead of lamprey?

Anyway, if you put 2 40%ed/15%ias jewels in it, it would look like this basically:

Berzerker axe

530% enhanced damage
+300 attack rating
+70% increased attack speed
9% life stolen per hit
Socketed (2)
Repairs 1 durabiliy in 20 seconds
Etheral (cannot be repaired)

You could also socket it with shaels, bers, amns and ohms etc

I know this would be rarer than 5 dropped zods in a row, but it is theoretically possible. It would be better than botd and a perfect rune master right? How about grief?

Personally, I'd rather have a Fool's prefix than the Mechanic prefix. But yes, it theoretically is possible and I would definitely use it before botd. Heck I might even use it before grief for style points.

Don't you get enough ar from frenzy/berzerk/concentrate/whirlwind already?

If you are using for Frenzy, I would equip it on off hand and therefore wouldn't require the IAS from weapon or jewels.

Etheral berzerker axe

Prefixes:

Cruel - 300% ed
Master's - 150% ed and +300 ar
Mechanic's - adds 2 sockets

Suffixes:

Quickness - 40% ias Change to Slaughter - 20 to Maximum Damage
Fast repair - Repairs 1 durability in 20 seconds
Lamprey - 9% life leech

Keep leech, but now add Ber and Ohm in sockets for Crushing Blow and +50%ED

can you find one like that theoretically ? yes

will it drop realistically in all your years of play time ? no

what about something that adds tons of elemental dmg? I don't know what they are or how much, but I'm thinking some of the pre and suff - ixes listed could be exchanged for something that gives mad elemental dmg..

The suffixes give very little elemental damage. Like the max lightning damage you can get from a sufix is 1-120 I think. You can get 1-480 from a prefix, but taking away the mechanic prefix (which is the least important prefix) is like taking away one of these:

40% ed + 15% ias
50% ed
20% ias
20% crushing blow
7% life leech

For example, the ohm would give damage equal to: the base damage of an etheral berzerker axe x 1 + (your strength, skill ed, aura ed and all other off-weapon ed).

That damage will easily surpass 240,5 average lightning damage, and you would be able to leech from it too.

Omikron: I already said in my first post that it would be more likely that 5 zods in a row would drop

Oh, and for frenzy, yes, it would probably be better to skip the ias and 30% ed to get +20 maximm damage and 20% crushing blow instead

if you're looking for "mad elemental damage" with some decent phys damage/speed thrown in just use frenzy with 2x gimmershred

Or Famine...

famine is one of those older runewords (before the release of ladder only runewords) where i'm left thinking "two high runes and all you get is a cruel with some elemental damage ?"

Might be better than an ebotd, but when it comes to zealing PvP, nothing beats Grief. Absolutely nothing - not even the most perfect rare eth weapon.
