View Full Version : Taking Down Phys. Resist Monsters as a Windy?

I've spent this ladder building a windy druid that I've been nothing but happy with. He can solo hell, rush others, rune/key hunt, and manage fine even in 8 player games. My construction has pushed +skill items above almost all else (hoto, spirit, etc.), and in order to keep my tornadoes flying and hurricanes circling I've equipped an A2 NM Holy Freeze merc with insight to provide a consistent source of mana.

The only trouble I've found so far is from monsters with physical resistances or uniques with stone skin (which also grants 50% phys resis). Thanks to Sirpoopsalot's guide (found here (http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=658719)) I've learned that the only ways to take down an enemy's phys resis is with either Amp Damage or Decrep...two curses that simply are not a part of my arsenal. I've considered equipping my merc with Reaper's Toll for the chance to cast Decrep, but that would mean losing the mana flow coming in from his Insight's Meditation aura. Now, to be fair, losing the Insight wouldn't be terrible, but I'd prefer to then equip something to the windy that would help with mana regen.

Any recommendations would be most welcome.

There aren't many other options than giving your merc a Reaper's.

If this is ladder one other thing you could do is keep a Lawbringer in your inventory and equip it when necessary. It has the Sanctuary aura which will set the physical resistance of all undead to 0. This won't help against non-undead PIs of course, both those are less common. Azurewrath has this aura too, but the dex required and cost might not suit you for just this purpose.

one thing i saw suggested somewhere else was equip a blackoak luna (for +dex) and a lacerator, and chuck axes until the curse hits.

just reapers or lawbringer on merc (act 2 and 5) will do the trick

Hurricane does cold damage - before I got a reapers toll on my merc I just cast hurricane and wait for them phys immunes to die ;)

On my windy I keep Hurricane running all the time- the damage isn't immense but it adds up, and for lower HP mobs it does enough damage to put them into hit recovery (better than the freeze). PI/CIs remain a problem, and equipping your merc with Reaper's Toll or such remains a solution.
