First off, I apologize if this has already been covered (and it probably has), but after 25 minutes of using the search feature, reading the rules and stickies, etc, I can't find clarification for my question.

When items are found in, say, 1.11b, and stored in an ATMA stash, and I upgrade to 1.12a, do all the items in that stash remain 1.11b (I believe they do)? More importantly, is there some way to convert or move these items forward to 1.12a? I see references to that all over the place, but I'm not sure exactly how to do it. I'm about to upgrade to 1.12a and want to make sure about exactly what I'm doing to my items before I start trying to trade any of them (so bear with the questions but I'm trying my best to ensure that I'm following all the trade rules correctly).

Thanks.

Well, as long as the items haven't touched a character upgraded to 1.12a, the items can remain as 1.11b. That, however, will mean that you need to maintain seperate stashes for both 1.11b and 1.12a since the two versions are otherwise indistinguishable

If you don't want to do so, you can just announce in your trader profile that your converting everything to 1.12a and have people assume all of your items to be 1.12a even if it was found in 1.11b and have not touched any 1.12a characters.

OK, that makes sense... Basically since the items are indistinguishable to ATMA, so long as it's a trade with someone else using 1.12a and my items are announced as such, it all works out fine by the rules. Just anyone correct me if that assumption is wrong. Otherwise, I think that answers my question.

I thought this from the SPTF Rules covered it (http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=666592) but if not:

Once an item touches a stash or character which is 1.12a, it becomes 1.12a. The same if a character is loaded into a 1.12a game. It's now 1.12a as is anything it's wearing or later finds.

No ATMA can't tell the difference but this forum has never allowed items to move BACK in versions and it would be too complex to say "never move item back except 1.12a to 1.11b", so we stick with "forwards only". This was also the position between 1.10 and 1.11.

You can play 1.12a and have 1.11b stashes for trading. However, as soon as any 1.12a item/char touches that stash it becomes 1.12a. In effect the easiest way would be to have separate installations as I do for vanilla/modded but for versions; the same as you would if you played 1.07 and 1.12a.

Frankly it would be a huge pain in the rear and I don't see the point. It looks like the vast majority have gone 1.12a.

There is a Google search tips section in the SPF FAQ that you might find useful. Any questions like this please feel free to PM myself and sirpoopsalot.

Thanks Thyiad. I'm clear on the not moving things back in version, so no worries.
