View Full Version : Should the Witch Doctor summon poisonous spiders?
Stemming from a great discussion about other Witch Doctor summons in a previous post, another poster came up with a great idea for another pet the Witch Doctor can summon: poisonous spiders!
Perhaps they could be singular large tanks like the Necromancer's Golems, perhaps they could be smaller melee fighters, or ranged attackers that shoot poison. Either way, I think this idea perfectly fits with the general vibe of the Witch Doctor: a dark magician from the jungle with control over nature and the spirit world.
Thoughts?
I don't think it sounds lame, I just don't think it goes with the WD that much.
I just don't seem them as being very "spider" oriented. I suppose it could work, if spiders were somehow part of the character, they could also be given a spider spell, perhaps a spell where (small) spiders run out from the caster and poison enemies around him in with a high damage over time poison.
So in short, yes, if it fits the character. No if it's just there because he's creepy and spiders are creepy.
I think the plague locusts work well as an "insect summon" coupled with Mongrels and the Zombie Wall. I wonder if you can actually call Plague Locusts a summon... Hmm.
If he does summon something else don't make it automatically poisonous (since you can enhance your minions with your offensive spells as a W.D.) Though if it were another insect wouldn't it be neat if when it is "killed" it explodes into smaller minions like that one fat "leech bomb" guy in the gameplay video.
Well, that idea is close to what I like.
I like having "spider swarm" or something like that lol, its like locus swarm that spreads to nearby enemies, but instead of eating the enemy it sprays webs to slow them down and hits them with a weak poison at the same time.

That makes about as much sense as saying that because he's not "dog-oriented", the WD shouldn't summon Mongrels.
The Witch Doctor has a general theme of tribal magic, fire and poison. Summoning poisonous jungle entities (especially when you consider the locust swarm) wouldn't really be that far off, would it?

That's what I envisioned when I read the original post, and I like the idea.
