View Full Version : IK Fury/Summon build idea

I have a high level Barbarian with full IK set. The full set provides some nice bonuses that handle just about every problem for a melee (AR boost, elemental damage, dual leech, some DR, IAS, FHR, high resist, etc.)

But for a while I've been itching to make a Druid, and a Werewolf/Summon build sounds most appealing to me. However, I dread the thought of having to completely rehaul my gear and finding stuff more appropriate for that build...except that, actually, I could use all the IK items, except for the helm.

I would have a fast attack speed, high-damage maul with added fire/cold/lightning damage for PIs (more than double what's on Baranar's even) plus crushing blow. The armor provides fire and lightning resistance with the partial set bonus even without the helm. I would still have the dual 10% leech and FHR and best-in-game 40 FRW on the boots as well as 25% mf (not much in itself, but hey, the more the better). AR boost also come with a five-item partial set bonus. In place of the helm I would certainly go with Jalal's, which stat-for-stat is much better than the IK helm anyway.

I would lose out on the skill bonuses, as they are all Barb-only. But Jalal's will provide some +skills.

A weakness I see is a lack of resistances. Even with the partial set bonus and Jalal's +30 res all, I'd still barely be in the negatives come Hell time. I would need to rely on charms/amulets/rings to fill the gap there.

Skill-wise, this is the hybrid I'm thinking:

1 Werewolf
20 Lycanthropy
20 Fury
20 Dire Wolves
20 Grizzly
The rest going to pre-reqs and HOW.

Ideally, providing a good melee Werewolf with a solid supporting animal crew. However, how crucial is having a high-level HOW for the summons to have killing power in Hell? If HOW is pretty much necessary, I suppose I could sacrifice one of the summons in favor of the other. The only thing I don't like is that the HOW dies in a snap in Hell. I know the Dire Wolves and Grizzly syngergize each other, with life and damage bonus, will that not be enough? If I had to go with one or the other, I'd pick Dire Wolves for the better crowd control, and for bosses my Werewolf should handle them relatively easy.

So I'm just sketching ideas here. I see that the IK set had been considered for the Town Dump Werebear, but in looking through that build I didn't really see the above concerns addressed so I thought I'd post separately (and that build was for Werebear, not the wolf's Fury setup.) Basically, do you think this build would be viable, before I might waste my time actually trying it out?

Check out Safetypro's Town Dump Druid guide in the stickies. It's skilled for a Bear, but you can easily tweak it to become a Wolf if you wish. The build focuses primarily on the IK set.

Adding to Vera's comment:
The build you describe works fine, and Safety's guide will help you in other gear choices. But there is one reason why you should consider a Werebear instead of Wolf: Shockwave. This is an awesome skill in combination with your Wolves or Grizzly.
