View Full Version : 'Silly' Cain
Hi all,
the Deckard Cain I remember from D1 and D2, was he really such a silly old man as he is now in the cinematics? The barb making fun of him etc?
How do you guys think about him?

He was always kinda silly, personally. Always into his studies. About time someone shut him up. xD

Dude, I bet he can nuke the world if he wants to. Any wizard that deep into books is like a god in flesh. :D

from what i remember of d1 he was the end all of knowledge. the man knew it all and was not the comic relief. he had moments in d2 that i found humorous but i believe those to be unintentional. to me it seems the games are getting less serious each time

It would have been good if the Barb went into a frenzied rage and cut his head off with the axe then said "It is time for shedding our enemies blood, not idle talk" :P
he's real wise in D1, but is made kind of fun of in D2..
i hope they'll honour him more in D3!

ya...i was a little taken back by the humor cain showed in the cenematic...not sure how i like that
luckily, that gameplay video was completely scripted and not part of the true game (According to Bashiok) in any way, so perhaps they wont have the silly comic relief like that..

I thought it was kind of funny in the trailer: "Stay a while and...<interruption, some talk and then goodbye>...no one ever listens".
In Diablo 2 it was always "Stay a while and lis*RATSCH!*", and then you rudely run on to the shopkeepers (where "ratsch" is the identify-sound, obviously).
It was a nice reference, but I won't be disappointed if the conversation stays in the trailer though.
I don't think it was silly.
It was the game designers making fun of the game and players of the game. Not the characters / npc's making fun of each other.
It was very rewarding to hear that as someone who played D1 a lot.

Yeah like, ID an items costs 100.000 gold and for everytime you listen to "stay a while and listen" it costs 1 gold piece less. To a minimum of 100 or something. :D
You know... a couple of times when I took an item to be identified by Cain I thought it fit the description of a particular Unique item that had been lost ages ago. Only to find out that it's not thanks to Cain's "expertise".
I'd be willing to bet he's been scamming me out of good items using his "Identification Fee" to fuel the costs of buying items I sell to Malah, Akara, Farah, Ormus and Jamella. That old Scam Artist!

LOL.
Cain-scamming. I bet he can dupe items with the Horadric Cube, too.

I just like that someone named "Wirt" is asking this question. Take your 50 gold, you peg-legged little ****! *cough*
I did not bring up the identify issue Flux, only my opinion of how Cain is treated so silly now.
What do you think of that anyway?

BREAK A LEG!:lol2:
The hunched-over, comical Cain is the main -- and dare I say it, only -- problem I have with what's been shown of DIII so far.
He is all about seriousness.
I think somewhat funny moments with him, wouldn't be bad, though there probably won't be many!
