Viable - perhaps a javazon or tesladin
Weird - poison necro, avenger - do they even work?
Super weird - a vairation of your 'leech' idea - an all passives amazon; perhaps in iratha.

javazon, i would consider on thhe same lvl as blizz sorc or hammerdin, although psn javas with another attack i am considering, as i havent playedi t befopre and it only uses 40 skill points.
avenger nt. tesladin, yes that could work and youd enjoy the 20 points to resist lightning.
psn java amazon with a strong valk would work, can u imagine psn doing dmg in cs though?
i would like a blaze sorc but compared to wall or fball it is pointless
any other suggestions

One weird build is a medusazon, which is good survivability build and fun to play. Focusing on causing fear and confusion amongst her enemies, the medusazon needs others to do the killing. Although it's highly gear dependant, the gear is easily obtainable. No PvP capabilities. Check the Amazon section for guides.

try my sanctuary zealer.
if u are interested let me know and i'll find it and link it for u.
or ask warlock, it seems he? made one too using the cool looking grim sycthe. *grins*
u might have to be cautious at first. but with high level and proper gear he almost never risks dying.
its surprisingly a very safe build, once u get the skills and gear. but until than it can be dangerous using on HCCL (hardcore, and of course classic, being the clasic forum:D)
as long as your weapon doesn't do too much damage and u got good LL (life leech) and FR (fire resist, for vemon lords), u can zeal away without a care in the world for IM (iron maiden) and fllame breath (vemon lords) in HELL CS !!!!!!! and "never" (well as close to never dying as is possible) risk dying.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
u could try this also though it might not be safe for HCCL:
*ALL credit goes to the person who posted this build type*
uglyzon:
or whatever the person called it. i read about this type of zon on some other site.
the person used a spear (though u could or "should" go with jav and shield being HC) and the chain lightning skill.
this is the trick he talked about:
the zons jav/spear skill that sends out chain lightning has been found to be kinda buggy. one of the things he said he noticed was that if the monsters are too close they (the chain lightning) don't actually hit much. so this was his idea:
chance to flee mod
he said this worked perfectly. the flee mod keeps u more safe and also moves them away making them perfect distance for the chain lightning to actually hit.
so this is kinda like the medusa build but its built more around chance to flee instead of cold/freeze/chill/slow.
well the face of horror has the chance to flee on it and its a mask....which is where the name he used ugly zon (or something like this, i think he mighta had an explative in it, can't spell, aka profanity) came from.
also i think u'd probably wear rattle cage too.
ah now i jsut remeber what he did!!! :
first he used fend to put the flee on multiple monsters, than he chain lightning'ed away at the fleeing monsters.
also using cleglaws gloves (or a spear with knockback) for the knockback would help keep u safe as u fend to put flee on monsters

gl getting any geasr to make a medusazon on classic.
To my eyes, there have already showed up two Medusazon items; Face of Horror and Rattlecage. Aren't there any others in classic then?
any weapon can get flee mod if thats what your looking for..

You could build a strafezon if you can find a high damage bow. I'd advise looking for a Balista, with 50ias (twitch and deaths) you get 4frames per attack strafe.
I'd advise a variation of your(Fredsta's) glass cannon in the sense that you get 100 vit and dump the rest(the part you don't need for str to hold the balista) in dex.
Also, get a max valk with max decoy, good amount of pierce.
The Sanctuary zealer I have works well in CS, but IM is still a problem. Mind you, I'm using Rockfleece and a undead crown for style(and +damage to undead). You could also go for a Holy freeze variation of the Sanctuary zealer, but you would not get the same damage to undead, it's a bit safer because of the slow and you could use a lower damage weapon( which also = less leech though )
Personally, I would like if the leech worked on the boosted Sanctuary damage, and the IM stays the way it is(not working on the boosted Sanctuary damage, but only on the actual physical damage). That would at least make the aura more useful and perhaps even popular.

Sure, from the top of my head, a mini-guide for the Sanctuary Zealer.
Here's a checklist of the things you'll need :
Grim Scythe
60 ias in total
crushing blow
good amount of ar(at least sigons helm + other sigons or at least 1 angelic ring with another angelic)
at least level 4 zeal with +skills, preferably level 20 for real damage
level 20 Sanctuary
level 20 Sacrifice to boost the zeal damage further
optionally, level 20 Cleansing
---=== Skills ===---
20 zeal (ar/damage)
20 sacrifice (damage synergy)
20 Sanctuary (main aura, boosts damage to undead even if the calc says it doesn't work)
20 cleansing (more aura damage, but not for your zeal attack, so optional; also very handy to get that IM off your head)
---=== gear ===---
You need 60 ias to reach the fasted attack breakpoint with a grim scythe and you won't even need fanaticism.
The following item combinations will get you increased attack speed. You'll need to pick one based on how much ias your Grim scythe has :
0ias grim scythe + twitch(20) + goldwrap(10) + sigons gloves(30) + other sigons item(helm/boots)
10ias grim scythe + twitch(20) + deaths gloves(30) + deaths sash
10ias grim scythe + twitch(20) + sigons gloves(30) + other sigons item(belt/boots/helm)
20ias grim scythe + goldwrap(10) + sigons gloves(30) + other sigons item(boots/helm/armor)
20ias grim scythe + twitch(20) + iratha's gloves(20) + other iratha's item (belt/helm/amu)
30ias grim scythe + deaths gloves(30) + deaths sash
30ias grim scythe + sigons gloves(30) + other sigons item (belt/helm/armor/boots)
30ias grim scythe + goldwrap(10) + iratha's gloves(20) + other iratha's item (helm/amu)
40ias grim scythe + Iratha's gloves(20) + other iratha's item (belt/helm/amu)
40ias grim scythe + twitch(20)
Naturally, if you have a 40 ias grim scythe, you can still choose to use deaths or any of the less ias item combinations, more ias just won't affect it.
There are probably some combinations I forgot, these just came to mind.
Well, the problem with some of the above combinations is that you will want crushing blow on your character somewhere. So Goblin Toe boots or Rattlecage, see what you have available, perhaps both if you feel like it and don't need the itemslots.
The manaleech is optional, because it's likely you will be able to regenerate the 2 mana needed per zeal. You will need lifeleech though, preferably as much as possible.
---=== Stats ===---
Your grim scythe will likely be the heaviest thing you are using with it's 140 str req, so that should be your max str. It will likely also be the most dex demanding item with it's 140 dex req.
str : what's needed for your heaviest item.
dex : what's needed for your heaviest item.
vit : the rest
---=== My choices ===---
On my char I had a 30ias decent grim scythe available (180 max damage) and it also happens to have -30 req, which is nice, because I wanted to get a decent amount of life on that zealer.
To be able to hit things I went with 1 angelic ring and the amu.
Just so I would not be frozen, I chose deaths gloves and sash.
For crushing blow I picked goblin toe.
For style points(and killing my resists) I took rockfleece as my armor.
And to stay in theme, I picked the undead crown for a helm.
My second ring is a resist ring, so it's not entirely dismal.
---=== tips ===---
2 handed zealers are certainly fun to play, as with any non WW physical melee char, don't get surrounded and try to avoid getting cold slowed.
You should be doing about 1k damage per zeal hit on your statscreen. This is multiplied about 8 fold into the damage you do to undead, because of the aura. The extra damage (7 times your physical damage) is not reflected back to you in case of IM, only the physical part(1k) is reflected back to you. You should be able to survive a full zeal with IM, but you will need a medic after that.
Most of the time, the Oblivion Knights will be knocked back by your aura, preventing them from actually casting things on you. When they do, switch to Cleansing to get that curse off your head faster. Curse time is actually shorter if you walk around with Cleansing and only switch to Sanctuary when you attack. Downside of this is that Oblivions won't be knocked back every 2 seconds, so they will be casting more curses on you.
Zealing a undead while that undead is being knocked back by your aura is actually not that much of a problem, because your Grim Scythe is really fast and has range 5.
As with any zealer, preferably take them on one at a time, they will be down in 2 seconds or less.
If you have another paladin's aura on you, you will kill the monsters faster, but also yourself if you get IM.
You will notice undead drop a lot faster then Venom Lords.
Why so much references to CS and it's monsters ? Because that is where this build does shine, CS consisting for three quarters of undead.
In most other places you should easily be able to survive because of damage+ias+leech.
