Smite dmg

I was just wondering, the HoZ is like 20-28 smite dmg and my current shield is like 40-50 smite dmg without holy shield. so is the HoZ just something good for the resistance + skill attributes and not good for damage?
My character screens says my smite dmg is about 1000. Even if I managed to get a grief from somewhere, isnt that only like an extra 400 dmg to my smite?

HoZ has +skills, resistance and good blocking properties, but if you're looking for a shield with as much Smite dmg aspossible you might want to pick something else, indeed. I've never used a pure smiter, so I 'm not 100% sure, though.

I understand that by "upping" the HoZ, you get greatly increased Smite dmg

True, according to the Arreat Summit you go from 20-28 to 46-46 smite damage, which nearly doubles your average damage. You do need 142 STR to carry a Zakarum Shield, though.
