View Full Version : The reason i dont like witch doctor so far
I know its too early to tell, but I am not impressed with the witch doctors' skills. I mean summon mongrel? Couldnt the devs do summon zombie warrior instead? I hope mongrels are not endgame summons.
Also, the fire bomb skill is really out of place. I would rather have the witch doctor cast a projectile that is a zombie limb. That would be so much cooler. Or a shrunken head that locks on to enemies, sort of like bone spirit.
This way, the witch doctor can be a spiritual successor to the necro. I would rather see the WD command an army of zombie warriors and mages. I dont like mongrel or firebomb at all.
I hope the WD has better skills than those two.

...the game isn't even remotely complete. I mean, Blizzard hasn't given much of any info about the game aside from a bit of two classes. Do you honestly think the video showcased the entire WD spell list?
And why would fire be out of place for a witch doctor? Seems pretty fitting to me, the whole aspect of fire seems to fit with the tribal setting. If they were to make skills like a zombie head that acted exactly like Bone Spirit, why even bother making a new class? Just go with the Necromancer again.

IIRC the video said that mongrels are one of the faster and earliest summons, so presumably then we'll have some bigger or slower monster to summon later (eg, imagine a first look at the Druid: we see fast wolves, but unbeknown to us we will get a tough grizzly bear later). If not a golem, WD surely need some sort of tank.
I also don't think Firebomb is out of place. We need to look at lore to find out how the char will turn out. WD don't throw fireballs. They throw fiery concotions. They spew rapidly spreading poison from the plants of the Teganze jungles. How would Alkor from Diablo 2, Act 3 fight monsters? How would Drognan? That's how the pure offensive WD, w/ no curses or summons, would fight I think. WD don't have Teeth, they have Firebomb. How do you envision the WD analog to the Bone Necro or Poison Nec?
Each class is supposed to have a myriad of builds and inherent focuses. Necros had poison/bone/curses/summons--all of which could be broken up into even more categories. In the broadest strokes, what do you think the WD is about? That q needs to be answered, because not everything is going to be related to zombies. *Fire skill ranged* is not the exclusive province of Sorcerers or Sorceresses (you didn't say that ofc, but it's been intimated a lot lately, along with Druid comparisons).
I'm glad you're not a game designer.
I'd say his skills are better than the Necro's so far. Of course that's just cause it seems like the skills in D3 will be cooler than the ones in D2 (a new Necro will/would have some new awesome stuff). The only skill I don't think fits is Soul Harvest, the others I think fit him perfect. Also the witch doctors magic uses mistic powders, so any straight up projectile wouldn't seem right.

I have to say that OP just wants a Necro copy. Stay with D2.
the firebomb seems slow as hell. I could see it being so useless in pvp. At least the necromancer spells were fast and hard to dodge.
Also, mongrel is a mixed breed dog. How scary are mutts anyway? Maybe if it was a pit bull or rottweiler, i would shiver. I never liked the wolves summons in d2. Mongrels just seem like the wolves, just worse.
That's just the name, its not really a dog. Don't tell me you are trying to use such an argument, and its only the first summon anyway.
Maybe it's a Mongrel because it's an undead dog made up of various dog parts from different dogs?

i dissagree i actually think the mongels could be very useful if you could make an army of them and use fire bomb on them to give them fire dmg.
Instead of mongrels, they could have been crazed chimps, gorillas, or some viscous animal that lives in africa.
At least, they could have made the mongrel have a color other than light green. Looks bad. Why not make them look like skinless dogs with their muscles showing?

Since the firebomb arcs, it seems to be much faster at short range. Moreover, the AoE of the bomb is impressive. I could see it being useful to do a ton of damage to opp. that get into close-mid range (super fast, leaping, charging barbs anyone?). Apropos nec spells in PvP I've yet to see a guide for, nor fight or hear of for that matter, a Nec that used Teeth in PvP. They use BSpear/BSpirit and so what was said before applies here--we've seen only two offensive skills...if I were to see Poison Dagger and Teeth I might be as unimpressed as you seem to be. Some skills may very well be unsuited for PvP (Raise Skeleton...), though I doubt that applies to Firebomb.
To me, mutts can be as scary as a full breed dog could be. What's wrong with a mixed breed? Ligers are mixed breeds and they're f****** scary. If you insist on dogs only, Pitbull/Rottweiler makes an aggressive mix. Paris Hilton's chihuahua is however a full breed.
You never liked the wolves either? Well, picky picky :). My example was to illustrate something other than coolness though. But likewise, if you want a cool summon you likely will have more choices. I take it the Druid's bear was more to your liking than the wolves? I personally hated Fire Golems, Blood Golems, and Skelly Mages but the rest of the summons were more than enough, both aesthetically and effectiveness-wise.
I wouldn't mind if they looked the way you said, like some nightmare from Pet Cemetery or something. But in any case, in the hands of the competent, mongrels are likely to often be lit on fire or covered in poison so I don't really see the point.
Not everyone is going to like every single hero, I myself hated the barbarian and the assassin (I don't know much about pvp I just didn't like their style)
So you just stated that you hated the wolves, yet many people loved them. So your idea is more a 'I plainly don't like the idea' more than a good critique.
I guess they're called mongrels because they are half common dog half zombie. And that they can merge with WD's elements.
We're not even sure their animated undead dogs. They may well be an assortment of various bones animated into a generally canine-esque form.
And that would creep me the hell out.

Like Leugi said, you'd be a madman to love, or even like, or even feel neutral about every class in the game. Diablo 2 is a great game but I too think Barbarians and Assassins were the most boring classes in the whole game, and I couldn't sit down and play one for more than 10 minutes before I wanted to go back to another class. Consider the Witch Doctor to you what the Barbarian is to me; you don't like it, but you don't have to, because it's just not for you. Everyone will find one or two classes they love out of the game I'm sure, but we'll also have one or two we hate.

I want to give my mongrels one of them cute little pink overcoats that some people put on their dogs and a darling little rainbow headdress! :)
I would rather have the witch doctor cast a projectile that is a zombie limb.
Throwing limbs at monsters.......
I'd rather see em throw a frosty mug of ale.

I think a crazed chimp would look sillier than a mongrel.
Skinless dogs though? That would be cool to see.

Headless chickens and poisons that make monsters zombies for a few seconds!
Hell, with all of these suggestions Blizzard might as well throw in those creepy, decayed looking Dobermans from Resident Evil.

I loved the Grizzly bear :D.
Also, I don't really see the point of this thread. My opinion, don't like it? Don't play it.

It isn't supposed to be a spiritual successor to the Necro. . .
He'll probably play the game still, just not the WD (unless that's what you meant, then nvm).
I disagree though, I like with WD. He'll probably have more summons later on, I mean ravens weren't used a lot, so weren't spirit wolves, I'm guessing you will outgrow the mongrels as you play on. But I do agree with firebomb, the explosion effect is cheesy.
One summon should be Super Ultra Mega Chicken.

You and your zombies lol. I agree on one point..it doesn't look like an interesting character to play for me either, but not because I'm all about the necromancer love it just looks plain stupid..however i reserve my final judgement until the game is final.
Get over the mentality that new = bad ..I think what you really want is a D2 expansion instead of D3 and that goes for most of you who hate change and want the old classes back. Thank god you are not developers of this game.
