Now this is not another whiney "OMG i hate teh health orbz" kind of thread, just to clear that up :D
I like the health orb addition, but I dont like how they removed the potion belt.
I believe that they should keep the potions belt AND the skill-bar-thingy
Because without a potion belt the potions(wich you can still get) are kind of redundent, I mean who wants to open their inventory in the middle of battle and click on a health potion?
SO, my idea was this, use the tab key to switch between the skill-bar and between a potion belt(no more than 4 potions)
This way you cant just mindlessly spam "drink potion" like in D2, becuase you only have 4 potions, AND becuase it will decrease your fighting capabilities(becuase you dont have the bar anymore)
I think this will also raise the difference between a "noobie" and a good player
(noobie will die because no heal, or just take way too long etc)
Its just a smalll difference but i think it would be a great addition to the game

flame/praise/comment away :D

I want to feel the danger. I don't want to be able to use potions ever. Nothing is dangerous anymore when you can simply erase all the damage.

hmmmm i fail to see what you mean by erasing all the danger :\
even in D2 potions werent as useful as one might think when playing solo
only rejuves were really overpowered and "erased danger" as you put it
potions recharge your health slowly and if you only can use 4 at a time you'll think about when to use them and not just spam.

For example:
i take the d2 CS, imagine having only 4 pots. You will have to decide, will i use the pots vs the monsters or against diablo himself, this pretty much nullifies your "erase all danger statement"

I think you do have a potion belt.

Normally in games that have hot bars, you can put anything in it (skills, potions, etc) so I'm assuming its the same with D3. Also if you watch the high quality version of D3, you'll see a TP scroll in the hotbar as well, so I'm assuming you still have a potion belt.

When you add up all the time we've spent going to town for more potions, picking up potions off ground, going to inventory to put potions on belt, checking belt periodicaly, managing inventory space to hold more potions, it really is too much time. I don't want to spent all this time doing administrative things like potion managmenet. If you add up all the time we've spent dabbling in potions as I've said, you're looking at several hundred hours (if you play a lot).

I think Blizzard is making the right choice in keeping us involved in the action.

@ visom
if what you say is true then this thread is pretts much useless :D
i was under the impression it was a skill only hotbar

@stillman
i believe thats why blizzard decided to reduce potion use in D3
But potions are and always will be an important part of the game
And potions, without a potions belt or a skill/pot hotbar are just.. well... bull****
That said im not sure if you're arguing against or for my idea^^

I'm in the "anti potion camp"

I would rather have the game be more fast paced, consistent and lowish damage with no potions, than have my characters life hinge on how many full rejuv's I have in my belt.

I wouldn't mind potions, and I imagine they'll have em with fairly long cooldowns, but I would rather they just leave them out and balance the game around not having them.

The way I see the health orbs, they essentially replace all the "extra" health potions that drop on the ground in D2. If I had a full potion belt and a super healing dropped, even if I was only missing a few HP, I would drink and pick up because it was easy and might help down the road.

Now I don't have to do that. I get health orbs to help keep me full between bursts of enemies.

In the gameplay trailer, you saw the Barbarian with a TP scroll-like thing in his hotbar, on slot 5 or so? Next to it was an empty slot, possibly akin to the Potion Belt.

you know you dont actually have to have a potion belt to be able to use a potion. alot of games have the controls set in a way where a certain key will use a potion thats in your inventory(assuming you have 1). d3 could do something like that if they wanted to, however like visom said, most games with a bar like d3 has allows you to put anything in it. personally i dont get the big deal with the skill bar anyway, in d2 you could already set key commands to a bunch of your skills anyway, they just didnt display on screen.

It basically cuts down skill use to one less click. If you want to hit Frozen Orb then Chain Lightning, in D2 you hit:

Right mouse --> CL Hotkey --> Right mouse

In D3 you'll hit:

Right mouse --> CL Hotbar button

And if you want to spam more than two skills in one battle, it further cuts down on your clicks.
