Sorry I posted this in the scam thread but it is buried fairly deep so I thought I would start a thread :D

Ok as far as the trade window switch scam I think I have a solution.
So you've placed your items in the trade windows now you have two buttons:

First one switches items in each others trade window so previous owner
can't manipulate the item.

Second button then confirms the trade and adds the item to your
inventory. Presto!

It seems fairly simple unless I've missed something or somebody said this already. As far as the scamming and account stealing etc... Karma is a B.

What? So you trade before you trade?

From what I understood of your suggestion I think it leaves it vulnerable to trade hacks. The reason people click on the item in the trade screen is because trade hacks don't have actually anything there, so those images you're seeing in their trade screen are just that images not a real item.

If I understood your suggestion you want an item lock button which would make people stop moving the item in the trade window and vulnerable to trade hacks. I'll take the item switchers over trade hackers.

Yeah, yeah, yeah an item lock button is what im saying. Cheesus Crust! I didn't know that there could be just an image of an item in the trade window.
Is this Common?

Well it's not much used these days because most traders know they should move the items in the trade window before a trade and that the other guy should also. Probably many don't know why they should do that, or why they got used to do that, the answer is that years ago a trade hack spread that made it so that an image of an item showed in the trade screen while there is actually nothing there, while you could set the hack to pick where in the trade screen it would show the image once it showed it you couldn't move it in the trade screen. When people found this out the practice of moving the items in the trade screen before trading started.

If item moving in the trade screen would be removed than hacks like the one I just describe would rule the land, that's why I don't like an "item lock" button.

Ok but if the first button switched the items I imagine the hack image would not be in your trade window and thus you wouldn't hit the confirm the trade button.

Switch what? You said a lock item button, not a switch item, they are not the same thing. There is no switching until you click trade. The way an item lock button would work is it would lock what's in the trader's trade screen, which as far as the game is concerned is "nothing" it's empty, what you see though is the item you want.

No switch item button before trade is completed should ever be implemented, I can only imagine what damage would happen if some exploit is found at it and a hack for it is created.

Read my first post. I meant it switched the items from say my top screen to your bottom screen that way they can move them around. if you are happy then you hit the confirm button and end trade.

I really try but for the life of me I can't make heads or tails of what you just said. My botton trade screen is your top screen and reversed, what do you mean items switched from my bottom screen to your top screen?

He did say "switch" cbr, originally (sorry to hop in like this). So you'd see the other persons item in your inventory, perhaps even move it but not drop/equip it ofc. Then you'd hit an extra button to reaffirm the trade (after you're sure that it's the right item); only then would the switch become permanent. If you didn't click the second confirm button and closed the trade screen, the items would revert back to their original owners.

With every item taking one space in inventory there is no possibility of placement manipulation, i.e. "I cannot carry that much" trickery. However if a hack was made/exploit found so that you could get the item without the second confirmation, things could still turn out very bad. It's a very good system in theory imo - ofc there is the problem of people wanting fast trades over security in most cases. Obviously, no one thinks they're stupid enough to get scammed... :whistling: :scratchchin:

Edit: replace 'inventory' with 'your half of the Trade screen'... If it is necessary.

I see what you mean and the entire process scares me. It's like asking to be hacked, such an obvious weakness in the game mechanics will have the hackers looking for exploits from Day 1, almost as fast as people looking for duping exploits.

There should be a DIII store so that there would be less need for trading. Bliz could manage security for us in the store much like WOW.
