Yes I know this is a long thread

Now as far as I see, many fans of the 2 Diablos are clearly disappointed with the new concept of diablo 3, here are the common complaints:

"Diablo 3 isn't scary enough"
-Ok, I don't know about you guys, but Diablo was NEVER scary, you have to be a 10 year old just to be scared of Diablo, besides this game is rated M so if you're younger than 18 then you have no right saying that anyways, so if you're 18+ you shouldn't even be scared anyways.

"Not dark enough"
-I've played Diablo1, it was extremely dark to the point where I sometimes miss any enemies and just walk by them. Diablo 2 was much lighter, and sometimes there are "glowing" enemies (ex. shamans, skeletal mages) that lights up the map in dark corridors, but no one seems to be complaining.

"Looks too much like WarCraft"
-Yes I admit D3 is starting to resemble WarCraft more, but keep in mind that some of the old developers for D1/D2 quit, so don't expect anything. Besides the character aren't as stubby as the WarCraft and do look more realistic.

"Weapons and armor don't look real"
-Well demons, ghosts, fireballs, zombie walls aren't real either but we still love it, give armor and weapons a chance. It still doesn't look as cartoony as ones in most MMOs.

Why is the scenery is too beautiful?
-Hey I have a better question, why does the scenery from D1 and D2 look like something just stampeded into there, when no humans or any other enemies of hell has ever went in there? Having a dungeon or area in good condition, then being torn apart after you're done with the monsters in it seems more correct to me. And in D2, most of the dungeons that you go into are old, abandoned sewers and caves, so you have to expect it to be filthy and run down in there, in D3 the dungeon that we've witness is more like an ancient temple or an elaborate, decorated tomb. A temple is not a tomb, not a cave, not a sewer, it's a temple.

Besides, you don't want the highly anticipated D3 that you've been waiting for about 10years to be 90% the same thing, theres no fun in that. It's good that D3 has some new styles, new features and anything to spice it up a bit.
Besides, the main thing that all Diablo fans love is the bashing, gore, and screaming of monsters, and D3 has that exactly all that and more, that's already all that we Diablo fans have asked for. We also love the skill, but most classes are only able to use 50% of all their character's skill, and in D3 they lowered the level cap so we can play around with more skills.. All the good cool new features are just a good bonus.

However D3 still has kept many of the original concepts that we love about the game:

-Exploring environments and often getting lost.
-Nasty traps
-Deadly monster teams
-Being surrounded by our murderous demon friends everywhere we go
-Mouse control
-Huge variety of vicious enemies
-Jaw dropping action
-Bosses that never ceases to amaze us
-Excellent storyline
-Classes each with different origin and abilities
-Filled with quests
And more...

My point is, eventually all games with a long awaited sequel has to have some changes or else the players will feel as if the creators/designers have gave up on the game and started slacking on it. Look at resident evil 4 for example, it's the biggest jump from the old series as with the new controls and gameplay, (yes it's the least scary of the resident evil series) but fans love it, played the game over countless times, and the RE4 ended being one of the most popular games ever.

A sequel can't really be a sequel if its not different.

Are is the list of changes that I'm more than happy to accept in Diablo3

-Health globes, its like a new reincarnation of the health shrine
-Using environments to help you fight
-Flying body parts, I know it makes the action look more exaggerated, but theres nothing more kick *** than a zombie being thrown 100ft into the air.
-Ragdoll effect, a more "productive" realistic feature
-More punishing traps, since the traps in D2 does little to no harm at all while in D3 traps can actually be a challenge (the chest that spawns monsters).
-Epic music
-"What in the hells is that?!"

However, there is one thing I don't like, being able to choose between male or female. Female barbarians just don't seem right. Also, quite a few guys are going to try hitting on people with girl characters.

Just let me know what you guys think of my thread, remember its just my opinion. Overall I do love D3 and the new path its going towards.

I recall it being called Forgotten Tombs.

I think D3 has phenominal graphics and the gameplay looks more fun/ragdoll physics, etc. I think Diablo 3 will be a great addition to the diablo community and won't be exactly like 2by any means. I also believe bringing in stuff we remember about diablo 2 like fallen shaman, the class of barbarian and having deckard cain back. This makes the game more interesting. I like the way the summoner class is for diablo 3, the witchdoctor, you shouldn't require corpses for summoning pets

I recall it being called Forgotten Tombs.

still, tombs are supposed to neat and attractive looking, seeing as its a place of rest for the dead, unless its a ghetto tomb of course

also a tomb is a quiet, and "dead" place anyways, so you can't expect to see broken pillars and stuff all over the places unless as i mentioned earlier, if there has been a fight recently in it

i did read about the skeletons in the diablo3 official website, it says that skellys don't actually require a corpse to be summoned and that they can be summoned in mid air, its just that summoning it from a corpse just takes less energy...so im hoping you can save 50-80% MP when you summon certain pets from a corpse

My vote: too early to tell. As long as it's free to play on battle.net I'll be buying it regardless.

There is no correlation between the sex of a character and the sex of the person playing that character. It's a non issue. Do you think people only played D2 characters that matched their actual sex? It's quite sad (and disturbing) to think that anyone would play Diablo as a way to meet a partner.

tmorrow; you'd be surprised how many people think that happens. On a GuildWars forum someone made a topic about the weirdest thing someone said to you. Many, many attempts to get laid. Rather scary, but worth a laugh if you play along a bit :P

Look how many perverse sickos get caught on that MSNBC program "To Catch a Predator" I wouldnt be surprised if these perverts troll bnet or any other online game. It's a major problem, that, accompanied by harassment, and racial slurs, they really need to implement stronger filters and find ways to permenently squelch or ban these people.. I think they should have a policy.. where if one infraction occurs.. these people get their accounts ticketed, and if more occur, then they get banned, it would be a nice change. I think the "Mature" rating is misleading, it should apply not only to the fact the game is gory, but also, it should imply maturity.. I'm trying to say if people step outta line, it warns, them.. and after a few infractions of misbehavior, it subsequently bans them.. if the box says mature.. then they should be mature enough to know not to slander and harass others.

its not that, in D2 people play any classes because the genders are set, so they can't do anything about it. Eventually no ones hitting on eachother based on assumption that if their char is a girl, then the player is a girl in rl.

but in D3, you have a choice of being a guy or girl, and in those kind of games that you can choose genders, guys will usually be nicer or start hitting on people with girl chars

I agree, they should have just left the genders fixed like in D2, what's the benefit of having a choice? If somebody chooses one gender over another, you'll tend to get harassed for that choice.. You look at it now, from time to time, you get harassed as is.. and its silly since there is no choice..

I've had this happen many times, simply by naming my sorc after a female character from a book I've read. If these nutjobs, start harassing you over name alone.. geez.. think of all the harassment that will occur just because you chose the female version... that's why I hope, they create stronger filters, and protections against these crazy annoyances on bnet.

Ignore list, the counterpart to a friend list. Something like perma-squelch. That should fix most problems.

Seems fun, but isn't this a premature thing?
I mean we've only seen a 20 minute pre-alpha demo and from the Q&A we heard more on the design philosophies than on the game so...
I think its shaping up to be great, but too early to say for sure, maybe I can say in after blizzcon this year!

I'm in favor of the chr gender selcetion.

See, d2 players are lowly scum. Well, a lot of them are. When you're an elite rightous person like I am, you really notice that oil and water don't mix, even in a virtual world. Look at the jerks on d2 at this very moment. Do you think they're going to behave when d3 comes out? Do you think it will matter if genders are fixed or not? It won't. We're going to get harassed by brats regardless of what the pixles on the screen look like.

As further evidence, I just want to point out that there are games being made on bnet enticing only homosexual male players to join. If you go in for better exp or to mf, you are in for some unwanted phone sex. Thus, even if you play a male characeter with a male name and you proclaim yourself to be a male player, you will still run into some retarded people who think bnet is a smut outlet.
