Yes I know this is a long thread
Now as far as I see, many fans of the 2 Diablos are clearly disappointed with the new concept of diablo 3, here are the common complaints:
"Diablo 3 isn't scary enough"
-Ok, I don't know about you guys, but Diablo was NEVER scary, you have to be a 10 year old just to be scared of Diablo, besides this game is rated M so if you're younger than 18 then you have no right saying that anyways, so if you're 18+ you shouldn't even be scared anyways.
"Not dark enough"
-I've played Diablo1, it was extremely dark to the point where I sometimes miss any enemies and just walk by them. Diablo 2 was much lighter, and sometimes there are "glowing" enemies (ex. shamans, skeletal mages) that lights up the map in dark corridors, but no one seems to be complaining.
"Looks too much like WarCraft"
-Yes I admit D3 is starting to resemble WarCraft more, but keep in mind that some of the old developers for D1/D2 quit, so don't expect anything. Besides the character aren't as stubby as the WarCraft and do look more realistic.
"Weapons and armor don't look real"
-Well demons, ghosts, fireballs, zombie walls aren't real either but we still love it, give armor and weapons a chance. It still doesn't look as cartoony as ones in most MMOs.
Why is the scenery is too beautiful?
-Hey I have a better question, why does the scenery from D1 and D2 look like something just stampeded into there, when no humans or any other enemies of hell has ever went in there? Having a dungeon or area in good condition, then being torn apart after you're done with the monsters in it seems more correct to me. And in D2, most of the dungeons that you go into are old, abandoned sewers and caves, so you have to expect it to be filthy and run down in there, in D3 the dungeon that we've witness is more like an ancient temple or an elaborate, decorated tomb. A temple is not a tomb, not a cave, not a sewer, it's a temple.
Besides, you don't want the highly anticipated D3 that you've been waiting for about 10years to be 90% the same thing, theres no fun in that. It's good that D3 has some new styles, new features and anything to spice it up a bit.
Besides, the main thing that all Diablo fans love is the bashing, gore, and screaming of monsters, and D3 has that exactly all that and more, that's already all that we Diablo fans have asked for. We also love the skill, but most classes are only able to use 50% of all their character's skill, and in D3 they lowered the level cap so we can play around with more skills.. All the good cool new features are just a good bonus.
However D3 still has kept many of the original concepts that we love about the game:
-Exploring environments and often getting lost.
-Nasty traps
-Deadly monster teams
-Being surrounded by our murderous demon friends everywhere we go
-Mouse control
-Huge variety of vicious enemies
-Jaw dropping action
-Bosses that never ceases to amaze us
-Excellent storyline
-Classes each with different origin and abilities
-Filled with quests
And more...
My point is, eventually all games with a long awaited sequel has to have some changes or else the players will feel as if the creators/designers have gave up on the game and started slacking on it. Look at resident evil 4 for example, it's the biggest jump from the old series as with the new controls and gameplay, (yes it's the least scary of the resident evil series) but fans love it, played the game over countless times, and the RE4 ended being one of the most popular games ever.
A sequel can't really be a sequel if its not different.
Are is the list of changes that I'm more than happy to accept in Diablo3
-Health globes, its like a new reincarnation of the health shrine
-Using environments to help you fight
-Flying body parts, I know it makes the action look more exaggerated, but theres nothing more kick *** than a zombie being thrown 100ft into the air.
-Ragdoll effect, a more "productive" realistic feature
-More punishing traps, since the traps in D2 does little to no harm at all while in D3 traps can actually be a challenge (the chest that spawns monsters).
-Epic music
-"What in the hells is that?!"
However, there is one thing I don't like, being able to choose between male or female. Female barbarians just don't seem right. Also, quite a few guys are going to try hitting on people with girl characters.
Just let me know what you guys think of my thread, remember its just my opinion. Overall I do love D3 and the new path its going towards.
