Jerkiness when playing online

I've noticed that when playing online that the game is kind of 'choppy.' Anything I can do to make this smoother?

*edit* playing in windowed mode seems to help

Recently it's been horrendous on bnet.

I get repeating places where I just get stuck for 3 iterations and then I go forward and everything that happened in the last 3 seconds happens now.

It's why I would NEVER play hardcore.
