I noticed that there is a multiplayer that you could play with other people with your single player character, but what is battle net? When I pressed it, it made me make a new character that is able to expire. o_O Why would it do that?

It does that to prevent the char server from being clogged with hundreds (if not thousands) of level 1s that never get played. Play a char for 2 hours min to "perm" it (meaning it'll expire only in 90 days of not being logged on instead of 11).

lol @ "what is bnet" question though. bnet is free online gaming service where you can play bliz games multiplayer.

Sorry I'm a total noob since the last time I played this game I was really young and only played single player...

But why would you play bnet if you could use your single player character online, too?

Single player characters can be played on open battle.net while closed battle.net (als referred to as "the realms" or just battle.net) requires a new set of characters.

Open battle.net became (and still is) clogged with hacks, cheats and dupes and mods so has lost popularity.

While many would argue closed battle.net has similar problemsthey're not as bad as open.

I don't have actual Battle.net numbers but it seems to me that US East is a little more active than US West... and Ladder more popular than Non-Ladder on both. At least with most from this forum-

I play US West - Non Ladder - Soft Core (Hardcore you only have 1 life and when you die you are done and have to start over)

Is there a list or something that shows how many people play on single player/multiplayer or battle net? Because I would like to play on the better one. o_O And I don't want my character to be deleted just because I stop playing her for a while (i.e. when I go on vacation or something).

I prefer battlenet so you can play with others and trade easily. Single-player you are solo for the most part. Do take a look at the single-player forum though - there are options I don't know about in single since I don't play it.

90 days until your character expires is plenty - thats over 3 months - I have 7 full accounts (8 characters per or 56 characters) and in all the years I've been playing I've lost 1... And it was due to some weird glitch.

You don't have to limit yourself either - you can play multiple realms (with different characters on different accounts) and play single-player too. I've also had I-net trouble so returned to single-player for fun (and it was  )
