Sorry if this is a noob question, been awhile since I've played the game..

If I buy a magical wand from a vendor (Normal difficulty) and use the socketing quest on it (again, Normal difficulty) will I get 2 sockets automatically from the quest?

Also, if I put DolIo in it for the White runeword, will it just stack all those Runeword bonuses on top of whatever was on the wand? Specifically, if the wand had like 20% FCR already would FCR from White stack onto it?

You can't use magic items for runewords.

You should try and find a nice White wand with good plus skills to use. They can come with up to 3 automods with +3 skills to that mod. (someone correct me if what I just said is wrong about the automods.)

But to answer your question you can't use a magic, rare, or unique item for runewords.

Ahhh damn, so I need to find a wand from trash or something? That's a pain in the ***. I thought you could use a magical wand. Any ideas where I should even be farming for one of these?

Just quest as you normally would and you'll find plenty of socketable wands off monsters.

You can buy white wands from Normal Act 2 Drognan that can come up with plus 3 to bone spear (plus other useful skills). Generate a game where the exit to town is right next to Drognan. Then go shopping. If Drognan has nothing you want then leave town and re-enter. He will now have a new inventory of items.

Make sure that the wand you buy is one of the wands that can generate 2 sockets with the socket quest:

Bone Wand
Grim Wand
Petrified Wand
Tomb Wand
Grave Wand
Polished Wand
Ghost Wand
Lich Wand
Unearthed Wand

I think Normal Drognan will only be able to sell the lower level wands, so you need to be looking for bone wands or grim wands. If you find an nice +3 bone spear in something like a Yew wand...well, that's no good. All other wands other than the above list can only get one socket. Also, even if you find a nice bone wand or grim wand with +3 bone spear it must have either no sockets (then you can use the socket quest) or two sockets. If it comes with just one socket already, then that wand is no good.

Thanks wiz, very helpful. So if I wanted to find a + to bone spirit wand, i'd need to do that out in the world right? Those can't be spawned off Drog?

That's correct...because normal Drognan can't sell wands with bone spear (or any lvl 30 skills). And vendors further along in the game will start selling nothing but magical (blue) wands which can't be made into White.

So if you want a +3 bone spear wand that is white, you have to actually find it.

That is not entirely correct... BUT if you want to find a +3 BONE SPEAR wand from Drognan that is not MAGIC you have to be no higher than 19th level... after this all wands will be magic. Do what Wizdomm said and "Shop" for it, it takes time... LOTS of time, but it is possible.

So...does anybody have a +3 bone spirit white wand that can be 2 socketed? :) Best i've found is a +1 B. Spirit with 2 sockets on it (not bad for now)

The 3 white wands my bonemancer have were all found in random games. Here are their base stats, which I made them all into white runewords:

Bone Wand - +3bone spirit and +1revive (for bm duels)

Bone Wand - +3bone spear and +1decrepify (for bm zons)

Burnt Wand - +3bone spear and +3summon resist

Honesly, for me I had better luck just finding them as drops. I tried shopping, but it got very tedious and boring. To each his own though

Yep, I found one a few days ago, and held onto it remembering this thread, its a white +3 Bone Spirit Grim Wand.
I have no Idea what its worth, but don't rip me off too bad and we have a deal :P

I found the level 19 restriction does not matter. I picked up a white +3 bone spear wand off drognan with a character in his 80s. I opened his shop a couple hundred times and got 2 wands with +3 bone spear that were magical before I finally found a clean white one with +3 spear and nothing else.

So far I've made white out of base wands with
+2 bone spear, +1 decrepify (2 of these)
and
+3 bone spear

I still use the decrepify one because I'm stubborn and havn't spent points to get decrepify naturally yet. If I happen to find a +3 spear wand with decrep on it (or better yet decrep + revive) I'll happily never put a point in my curse tree.
