Yep.
Excellent choice. Cheap, effective, and there aren't alot of other options (Ist is ridiculisly expensive, Lem is useless etc).
As a summoner you don't need that high res, but you don't want to be 1 hit KO when your resists are below 0.

Yes, it is definetly worth to put a socket in it for more resist.
I put a p diamond in an 186%ED Homu at first and that helped my sum necro survived better in Hell. If you're thinking to make your necro equip godly, get a 200%ED Homun and socketed with UM rune. That's what I did to my necro's Homun. I even upgraded to Bloodlord skull elite version of the shield for higher defense. Don't invest an UM rune in a low ED% homun if you are aimming to upgrad to a higher %ED Homun later on. But with that said, it's only if you care about def %ED at all ;)

It's possible to acheive max resist for nec. For example, my sum nec has 15% res jewel with 8 energy socketed in his AOKL + UMed Homun + Anni + Torch. His res isn't max yet in hell but he's doing great in hell especially against gloam or burning soul in world stone keep level 2. I'll get him a Mara later on when it's more affordable on ladder.

The more resist the better but it's not absolutely must for sum nec as you're relying on your "meatshield" army most of the time.

If you're really having troubles with Souls you can just slap Tgods. The huge +max light res is amazing, giving you can fill it up. IK belt is a great option too with a big light res bonus.

Or you can just use Dim Vision. Works great. I love it (:

Ahh thanks again for all the info ^^. Should help me a lot. The only thing I want maxed is LR for burning souls. Other then that I run through Hell atm.

Tgod is an interesting idea but def not the permenant solution for nec becouse he's not going to wear tgod as his final gear later on in the game. Yes, even you're maxed on res, lightning dmg from those burning soul gang pack especially minons are still quite deadly. Dim Vision is a must on them and let your army taking care of them. They've reletively lower life so even without amplify on them with continual dim vision curse, your army can still take them down without problem.

Get an Anni with good stats in res, a torch with good stats in res, a good res mara, UM'ed homun and 15% res jewel in the AOKL if you're a summoner. I currently use Enigma for my sum nec as his job is mainly for MF but his build is also very capable in just about everything; PvM, PvP, and even Uber after switch to diff combination of gears of course.

A cheaper solution to acheive max resist for your nec without sacrifice on +skill bonuses is to make yourself a COH - Chain of Honor. It's cheaper to make than Enigma - IST+BER is mostly the cost. You're less dependant on good res Mara, good res Anni and good res torch. One COH and its fixed 65% res will solved the survivability prob in hell. I had thought about that before I couldn't afford to get the final high rune BER to complete my Enigma on ladder.

So much good info here, thanks. Is a Tgods expensive to get ahold of? I want to use one for now until I get better gear to trade with. Anything to make Burning souls easier to handle the better atm.

Some magic finders like to socket their items with Ist but that is a bit more expensive.

It's the combination of all equipments to do the job right.
Like I've mentioned earlier, a COH rather than Enigma will gives you more open options for different choices of gears and less dependant on good resist items such as from Torch, Anni and Mara. However, you lose the teleport ability from Enigma. This is a severe down side in my honest opinion and I can explain why it is.

1. Without teleport, your nec with X% increased faster run/walk will lose partial of his summon army due to too many of them and not be able to catch up becouse of blockage in the map and various other reasons.

2. The same reasons in #1 will make you lose your valuable golem as well, especially an aura golem that you've invested using a runeword such a nice Insight that you've rerolled it to get level 17, etc.

3. You're going to keep on raising your minions to acheive max # of them due to their lost. It's going to slow you down and simply wastes more mana

4. You'll do everything much slower than one with a teleport ability. Especially in boss fights like Baal. You're forced to open a town port right beside baal to call up all of your minions that are scattered around the map to all join to fight baal.

Enigma is the better route of course but it costs higher than a COH but the overall gain is greater.

You'll eventually move from one stage to another or you'll prob jump a stage to the next like I did if you're lucky.
