View Full Version : How's this HC Poisonmancer?

I haven't played a Poisonmancer (or any other character for that matter) for about 5 years now. I installed the game a day ago, running a character through SC Normal so I can go HC again and I know that a Poisonmancer will be my first character when I can finally make it. But there's so much I have forgot about this game already!

This is my idea of a build:

Main skills:
Poison Nova: 20
Poison Explosion: 20
Poison Dagger: 20
Lower Resist: 20
Bone Armor: 1
Revive: 10

Basic skills:
Corpse Explosion: 1
Skeleton Mastery: 1
Terror: 1

Synergy skills:
Bone Wall: 2
Bone Prison: 2

Prerequisites:
Teeth, Amplify Damage, Weaken, Iron Maiden, Life Tap, Decrepify, Raise Skeleton, Clay Golem, Raise Skeletal Mage, Blood Golem, Iron Golem, Bone Spear.

My thought was to rely on my poison spells and some corpse explosion through Normal and Nightmare, but in Hell I will die without some crowd controll, since poison is all about slow killing. Since I will have some points over, I thought that instead of boosting my Bone Armor, I will get 10 basic points in Revive and get some extra meatshields. Then I don't really need a heavy Bone Armor to survive in HC. If things go bad, I always have Terror to make things chaotic.

What do you think? Will I survive this way or should I invest in a golem?

First, 20 in LR = nono thanks to major diminishing returns. With enough plus skills (2 Wand, 1 Ammy, 1 helm, 1 armor should be easy) you can get it up to a reasonable level with one point.

I personally with my HC Poisonmancer went:

20 P Nova
20 P Exp
20 P Dagger

1 in ALL curses. (Attract is awesome*)

1 in all Summons, with maxing Skel Mastery.

To add, Attract is a nice skill for taking heat off you and your minions, and onto there fellow monster kin. I cast it alot, especially when entering unknown areas (Throne entrance anyone?).

Maxing Skel mastery to me made for more beefy tanks in my 1 pt Skel, Mages, and Revives. Others may disagree with this, but I did it anyways. Fire Golem is used for the Holy-Fire-Attracts-Monster-To-Him effect. Clay for Bosses for the slow effect.

I used Poison Nova to kill, then mopped up with CE. Make sure to aim for the 3 piece Trang (Gloves, Belt, and Shield) for the bonuses to poison. If you are lucky enough to get a Death's Web, you kill nice and fast, and he is great for the Pits.

Bone Armor doesn't need to be buffed up, but make sure to always run it IMO.

Block with a Eld'd Trang Shield can work, but if you play right, shouldn't be needed much. I think i ended up with 50% which suited me fine.

But don't I need to boost Lower Resist some to remove immunities? Since this is a new account I'll be at 0 gear-wise, so I don't like relying on gear it will take weeks before I can get before I´ve got some mule chars.

I actually didn't think about Attract. Jeez, I need to relearn this game almost from scratch. ^_^

I saw so many nec skipping dim vision, confuse and attract, but I found they're awesome crowd control skills!

If u use carefully and ur mates dont mind, bone wall is also great!

I'd rather drop the 20 in Lower Resist and put those 20 in Skel Mastery. Then 1 point in all summons (except fire golem) for some nice Revives. One point in all curses (except maybe confuse and attract).

The difference in removing immunities between a level 1 and a level 20 LR is 6%. With some +skills gear you can easily get a level 5 LR. The difference between a level 5 and level 20 LR when it comes to breaking immunities is 3%. It really isn't worth the skill points.
