Q about sockets

The sockets page in the wiki gives conflicting information and the AS has some errors in it, so I'll ask my question here:

Will any paladin shield get 4 sockets form larzuk, or will a shield get 3 if it was drop by a monster with and mlvl between 1 and 25?

It'll get 3 sockets if dropped by a monster of low level or if you "fix" a low quality version with the cube (the automods will also be reset)
