View Full Version : Please blizzard, don't make the level cap 99!
I just hope that the level cap will be lvl 100 and not 99. I HATE the 99 lvl cap in d2. Look at all scaling mods now. Shako: 148 mana. Enigma: 99% better chance to get magic items. Enigma: +74 strength
I hate that the scaling mods are so uneven. Also, 99 sound uglier than 100. Any agreement?

Not really. This is an arbitrary matter.
Please blizzard. Make the level cap 73.
It's just a number.
If it's just a case of "The Numbers," maybe we can improve it to letters and words.
"Total noob"
And
"I play way too much"
I'd like those instead of the current system. Just those two. One or the other.
Level cap at 250 or something obscene please. Either that or make Level 99/100 really hard to achieve.
I'm sadistic :girly:
Best suggestion : no level cap at all.

Do you realize that in d2 it takes over 5,000 baal runs to reach level 99?
The leveling scheme in WoW with the addition of 10 levels adds a great reason to really level your hard earned high level character even higher.

That would ruin Diablo III...People would work on the same character for years and the outcome would be ridiculous, overwhelming, and retarded. PvP games would be based completely on whoever has played the longest. Damage levels would be astronomical, and player stats would be out of control...

Yea i want a level cap, dont care much of the number personally. I dont consider my character finished until i see that 99 there lol and as halophreak said it was such a long job in getting that level 99, i got super tired of killing baal lol

How many PVPers are there with lvl99 now? I mean previous ladder. In D2, few more levels doesn't mean that much.
never really lvled much over clvl 90. What i'd love to see is increased lvl cap with some kind of exapnsions (but guess it's too soon for that as the game itself isn't finished yet :)

Had to double check to see if you were talking about D2 here. I know it says D3 but maybe you're confused...
Been playing d2 far too much but never got a lvl 99 char either:) I think most I ever got to was lvl 93 - mostly because I got bored sitting in baal runs and just went for MF.

I wasn't counting so no, I didnt know that (although the ETFonTop team calculated exactly how many they required after level 90 iirc, so a more precise number is around here somewhere)
Still, it's not hard enough imo. I mean, it's a lot better than the 1.09 days when it was far too easy to get to 99, but still...

Most of the builds don't require you to get to lvl 90 to beat the game and efficiently run bosses. That's why I've never bothered to waste my time leveling. Those who are into that kind of thing.. well, go for it. I personally get very tired after 20 baalruns - altogether.
Having level capped is a good thing for the following reasons:
-prevents no-lifer grinders to be total tyrants of the game, limiting their powers so other players could have a chance
-still make the game a bit difficult, because if you have a level 200char in D2, you're not going to have any troubles at all so it ruins the game of the game
-D2 is all about experiencing different characters, theres a reason why they gave you 8, NOT sticking to 1 and only 1character throughout your whole diablo life

The lvling is quite arbitrary and takes way too much effort for its gains at the highest levels. My main interest is in itamz...so getting a high level gambler is all I need, and that also saves me from unwanted attention

Blizzard should just go mental and make the level cap something like 500 :)

I think a level cap of 20 is enough.
No seriously.
Okay, the lvl 99 is okay for D2 as you need those levels for all the skills. The skillmax is 20 and you could max 5 skills. If the skill max in D3 is not 20 for all skills I am sure the max level is reduced and probably increased with the expansion and the new skills it might bring to existing character classes.
Geeze, almost noone is taking this seriously. It doesn't matter if it's hard to come to lvl 99 already, it doesn't matter even if noone in the world had come there, it's just that it adds more style with lvl 100 than with 99. Stop talking about how hard it is getting to level 99, cause that has nothing to do with this, and is off-topic, which is against the rules.

Having lv100 would be nice I guess, might fill the character sheet more evenly. Maybe a different leveling system entirely is in order, though I doubt they'd change something so central to the Diablo series. Realize however that leveling has changed slightly through the two games out (counting D2 and LOD as one game), in D1 players get some attribute points, and that was that. If you spent them wisely, you could easily out-pace someone bigger than you.
I kind of agree with the others on this one though, 100 or 99, it's just a number. DnD has 20 levels (depending on whose rules you use, and if you break them), though some games I've played have 150, though due to the way pacing works, mid-level tends to be about 100-125 in that system. It's all a matter of perspective. I never had a 90+ character in D2, and even if it went all the way to 100 in D3, I'd probably never see it.
Or let us have lvl cap at 23 and make the whole game obsessed by the number, 23 monsters in each group 23 uniques for a class 23 skills...lol

D2 lvl 99
D3 lvl 198

I prefer 100 over 99, but truly it should be 101 because the player starts at 1 (or have player start at 0), and gets 98 level ups...
Srsly... it's not that important.
It's completely normal to prefer even numbers than odd :)
It's similar to the volume on my TV. If it's on 7, I just get annoyed.
Cap the level at six-hundred and sixty-six.
Stupid thread.
Level cap should be 52.

Level 666 would be the best, it fits into Diablo nicely.

They should make a zod rune drop somewhere from a monster. Players will go Eek! and the rune itself is useless. Just a homage from D2.

I'd say current situation is perfect - level 90 (sufficient end level for a lot of builds) is perfectly attainable via normal gameplay (various area/boss runs, helping other chars clearing acts, etc.) while those inclined to maximize can waste their time baalrunning ad nausea :-) Or just play for a long time.
As has been said - D2 is about builds and items, not about powerleveling.
So hopefully D3 won't be anything close to those scary Korean/Japanese grind-fest MMOs or jSRPGs.

I like the idea of no level cap just so long as it continues to grow exponentially harder to gain further levels.
In diablo 2 to go from 97 to 98 is over 1000 baal runs. 98 to 99 is over 3000 runs. If you could go higher then 99 to 100 would be 10 000 to 15 000+
The rewards for this exponential increase in work are a consistent 5 stat points and a skill point. Some builds might get a very high return from that one extra skill point, but it will never be worth going ever higher in level for anything more than bragging rights.
Even if there was no level cap in diablo 2, there wouldn't be anyone in 1.10+ with higher than level 104. That would be going beyond 100 000 baal runs.

Lumpor has a point. On tests, 100 means perfection. Plus, players deserve the third digit for all their efforts. It would help them stand out as the best levelers.
Additionally, 99 looks kind of cheap on part of the programmers. I'm sure this is not the case, but it kind of looks like they got lazy and thought 2 digits (99 max) is easier for them to work with than 3 digits (100).
It sounds crazy, but I'm Ok with no level cap. If "tyrants" want to reign supreme, they should be able to if they invested the most time. I don't see how it hurts anyone else. If they have an advantage in dueling, the other duelers can simply accuse the tyrants of being too high level so their wins don't count. As for monsters being too easy at lev 113, well they weren't easy when the palyer had to do his levels 1-80. Now that he is lev 113, the mosnters should be easy because he earned it.
If a crazy dude with "no life" wants to use just one chr forever, then he is going to do so regardless.
I'm going to read the instruction booklet before I start playing d3. Lol. This will help me design a good chr from the start and I will try to rely on just this one chr. I don't want a repeat of d2 where I make 16 dead end chrs that I give up on.

I agree, something simple and even like 100 would be nice.
Having the level max at 99 always seemed sort of incomplete to me. Still, I know this is just nit-picking.
Or they could do the more sane thing and simply start at level 0...
99 max, have some difficult long quest that requires some item to start to gain level 100 at the end. Would keep capped characters usefull to play with untill you find the item and get the last level. While looking for the item you would gain experience that would transform to level 100-101 experience. Altho you wouldn't be able to reach 101 level you would still keep gaining experience. This way the ladder would keep going even when 100 people had max level characters. The one with most exp is on top.
