I haven't kept up on the D3 discussion much, so this might have been covered already. If so, please link me to that thread.
I didn't really get this sense from the journal, but Blizzard has implied that Cain has been corrupted. From the FAQ page:
Q:
Can you give an overview of Diablo III's storyline?
A:
It has been twenty years since the events of Diablo II. Of those who faced the Lords of Hatred, Terror, and Destruction in the battle over the fate of Sanctuary, there are few still living who can bear to remember the horrors that the Prime Evils wrought upon the world. And of those who did not witness the terrible events firsthand, most believe the stories to be little more than myth. But something evil is stirring once again in Tristram, and it may already have claimed its first victim: Deckard Cain.
What's up with that? Any ideas?

No, I think it means that he gets abducted and your quest in act 1 will culminate in his rescue. Decard Cain is a recognizable figure that people care about. So threatening him will work as a motivator more so than most.
If the content team can produce even 40 percent of the game to the level of the area they showed us, and make the fight they showed us just one of many such fights in each act, this will be awesome. If it's an act boss, it still looks really good.

Cain was the first to investigate the new "stirrings" and venture to Old Tristam and it's cathedral, if I understand this right (taken from Cain's journal at Diablo3.com). So it might just imply that Cain is the first to witness the 3rd coming of "evil".

I think that means that Cain was "abducted" for lack of a better term. If you watched the gameplay movie, they had to rescue cain as one of the first things they did. That's just my thoughts on it.

It's all that talking he does.
He should have ran for cover instead of staying a while and listening.

Ha, had this great visual in my head.
Cain, Baal and Diablo at a tavern. Cain boring Big D and Baal with anecdotes. Diablo slipping something into Cain's champagne flute.
Cain: Did you just put something in my drink?
Big D: Damn it all!
*Diablo stands up, grabs his bar stool, and promptly knocks Cain unconscious*
Baal: How is that part of your 'subtle' plan to kidnap this bloke in aid of our Universal Domination..?....twit...
Big D: HEY, he's out, isn't he? Geez...always nagging...

Cain looks not the same, I agree. Although if he's possessed with some evil spirits ..who knows lol. He looks way older now, but also slightly different..

You guys are a lot more eloquent than most of the other guys in Classic section. But don't tell them I said that! ;)
Thanks for weighing in.

Cain feels like a complete failure, having disregarded the horadrim prophecies in the first place. He keeps dwelling in his failures. Maybe this is his true victimization and nothing more.

I made this for a different thread and I thought I'd bring it up.

That's good. Stick it in the gallery as fan art, so it will archived and seen by everyone long term, rather than just the people who read this thread.

Here's a comparison between Cain and an old man NPC in WoW:

Frankly, I see large differences between color and style. Apparently, you do not. Do you have an objective measure we can utilize to determine which of us is correct? Or would you agree that your statement was purely asinine in light of the evidence?
