hi guys, i have a question as i want to start a necromancer:

which one of the two (fishymancer and poisonmancer (with poisonnova) do you think is

a: the most fun playing (i know this is a question of taste, but by "fun playing" i mean challenging and varying gameplay, having to think while you play)

b: the most effective in hell (baal, mephisto, shenk, pindle, eldritch, countess etc)

c: the best for mfing

Someone has to say this:
Poison/Summon Hybrid!
:smug:

But in all seriousness considering the three questions you have submitted I consider the Venomancer to win for fun to play, most effective goes to Fishymancer hands down, and Magic Find is pretty much even, due to the Venomancers ability to do quick area clears for the Pits etc.

As mentioned above, I think that there are certain places that a poison/summon can do better than a fishy. However, overall, I find the fishy (with mages) to be less item dependant, and more versatile in more areas.

I don't think fishy's are fun at all. They are actually quite boring.

The only positive is they can stroll through hell naked. All be it at a slow pace but they will do it.

I agree with above mostly.

Poisonmancer is more fun.
Fishy is most effective.
Fishy is better Mf'er just because they can go anywhere. It might be a slow process though.

A Fishy with Mages isnt a Fishy, is it? I thought his was Max SM, Max Skeletons, Max CE, 1+ in Summon Resist and its pre-reqs, and 1 in each Curse, focusing on slotting up Attract, Amplify Damage, and Summon Resist?

Or am I mistaken in thinking that Fishy deliberately avoids the Mages?

Sorry, I'm a bit new/green. :) I only just read the Fishy build last night.

Lewis A fishy only uses 60 points at base (20 SM, 20 RS, 20 CE) what you do with the other 40+ points is up to you. Since I made a "Fishy" base, and just used 20 of my remaining points to max mages, makes me a Fishy with maxed mages.

Ah, gotcha. My old, old single player Necro I made when 1.10 came out is a Fishy with Mages then. :) I'm thinking about re-doing him from the ground up a) for fun and b) because I hate my stat allocation. I wish I'd gone for max block.

Anyway thanks for clearing it up!

i have to say the fishy mancer has to be the most powerfull, ive been playing hell diff starting at lvl 54, and can move threw the acts a fairly good pace, ive been fortunet enough though to find enough magical + to skillz gear that my skellies are lvl 29 though so normally most peeps dont have that much at that lvl

Some people say that a poison necro with godly gear kills stuff faster than even hammerdinds. Havent heard any similar rumors about skelliemancers. And they dont have to summon their army to be effective killers.

As for the fun, only the player himself can decide that, a single player char with all skills maxed with a character editor is a good idea to try and see what you prefer.

I had both, with insane gear, I still think the fishy was faster. Tele-stomp, amp, then CE, whole screen and then some is dead. Killing speed is only limited to how fast I can press the buttons.

The poison/summoner was fast too, but it just came down to the area of effect of CE being bigger than Nova.

I retired my hammerdin, as both of these necro's were faster.

OFC, but then you can't tele. I like teleporting much better. And he asked for the most fun build, and teleporting is much more fun than dmg boost.

poisonmancer requires more skill than fishy and I think most people find it more fun. as for power all depends on the gear and where you are farming.

fishymancer can cope with anything butt naked easily, poisonmancer cant really.

for killing bosses id say fishy has the edge as poison nova takes quite a while.

for farming normal mobs id say psnmancer takes the edge until highly psn resistant mobs appear.

as for comparing vs hammerdin. as long as the mobs arent immune then my poisonmancer will easily move through normal mobs faster than a fully geared hammerdin.
The advantage of hammerdin is they have the edge on boss kill speed and there are less magic immunes around.

but I think my nec takes the edge on survivability as he has quite easily managed to tank areas uber geared hammerdins have been shredded (ie multiple special mobs with fanat, might in 8player games etc etc)

at the end of the day id choose a psnmancer over any other class, but its all preference :)

I liked playing my poisonmancer from a fun standpoint more than my fishy, but nothing owned like the fishy.

as Fallen mentioned, bosses didn't stand a chance of lasting even 10 seconds.

With 50/52 mages and infinity, and 18 high damage skellies with amp/auras there is no such thing as immune/resistant to a fishy.

With a tele-stomp everything dies on contact, there is no fighting, just instant death.

CE was bigger than the screen, 1 CE (with amp/conviction) could clear the whole screen and 1/2 the next. (with tele-stomp, no waiting for that 1st body) There is nothing else that can even come close to killing that much, that fast.
