How would the absolute best crafted Berserker Axe(blood i assume would be the best starter recipe) stack up with the better rune words? Is it at all worth trying?

I ask because im unsure how the mods on crafts are spawned.

nep it can't be eth so the damage will suck

Since when was ethereal a pre-req for something to be a good weapon.

This might be better directed at the stats forum(not suggesting making a dupe topic, but maybe asking a mod to move it for ya). As stated since it can't spawn eth, it really wont stack up against the better runewords.

So you can't use an eth item to craft with?

I think u can try to imbue eth big 2hander weapons so that they can compete with some runewords, I've tried it before but with no good results!

Nobody said that. I suggest to be a bit nicer to people who want to help you. If you know everything yourself, why do you ask then ?

Items lose their etherealness when crafting them, so crafted items will not even come close to an average ethereal BotD weapon. Desirable mods are damage, IAS, sockets and perhaps leech, I guess, and crafted items cannot have more than 4 random affixes.

The greatest amount of %ed you can get with a blood or hitpower weapon is 610%ed (Master's+Cruel+2 sockets with Ohm + bonus from recipe) which is like 373% on an ethereal weapon. More than 50% of all BotDs are better than that and they also have more leech and speed and other bonuses than any crafted weapon. The chance for a crafted item to come even remotely close to that is lower than 1 in a billion.

No, it's not worth it, at least not with respect to efficiency. However, a crafted item with massive %ed, IAS and sockets can be quite sexy to a few people and have a higher market value than most BotD weapons, I guess. The only problem is that the chances to roll one are so incredibly low that it even with unlimited resources you will probably not roll up one in the next 10 years.

This is an awesome axe, but definitely not EBotD quality. (http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll187/theBanger/SkullSplitter.jpg)

Every one has pretty much told you the story, high rune words > crafted weapons. The only advantage it has is a cool name.

IMO Breath of the Dying sounds cooler than skull splitter.

It could attract some attention with the 'fools' mod, but then again, a rare eth, selfrepair 'fools' axe would probably trump it.

I ask because im unsure how the mods on crafts are spawned.

You have three fixed abilities: +%ED (up to 60), life steal and +life. Then you get 1-4 random affixes (guaranteed to be 4 random affixes if the item level of the crafted axe becomes at least 71) picked from the same affix pool as for rare axes.

I think this recipe is best used if the character is untwinked (i.e. uses only items found by that character) since it then has very little chance to find runes for the most powerful runewords, so a good crafted BA has a chance to stand up to the best weapon you have found so far. Also, Berserker Axes are one of the better Elite crafting materials that you can actually buy from vendors (Hell difficulty Hratli, Halbu or Larzuk).

I just managed to craft this axe with my untwinked barb..since there is no way I could get any of high runewords, I really can't complain, I guess..

That's a nice axe, especially untwinked.

Oath is not too expensive (runes possible form hellforges or countess) and beats any real crafted weapon easily. But if you playing untwinked, it's another possibility to get at least decent weapon which is allways nice.
