One thing about D2 that at least to me kept it fresh for so long was that the majority of the environment was so varied from game to game. You never really knew in which direction to go and there were always new obstacles on the field. Imagine if the maps would've stayed the same all those years, I'm pretty sure that would've been quite boring in the end.

Hellgate London even though it didn't turn out as a very big hit used it too with their former D2 developer crew, and that's one part I liked about the game.

So, would you like an environment that's random for each game, or do you want to have the same maps every time? Also, has there been any official word on this from the developers?

They said that the dungeons are going to be random (as well as a bunch of sub-quests, and scripted events) which is how I like it, and how it should be.

No, that's why i'm writing on a D3 forum 1+ year before the game will be out.
