I was thinking of this to counter all the inane "the graphics are too vibrant though we have only seen 1% of the game" posts.

So if they have added night and day to Diablo 3, and the gameplay was shot during the day time, the game is perfectly fine.

Just think about it. In real life most people have no problems going into graveyards during the day but most will coward out to a visit at night.

So in conclusion, yes, the landscape was bright but I haven't found a confirmation or dismissal of Diablo 3 having a night and day cycle. IF there is one then the landscapes will become much more gloomy and creepy at a night cycle, making the game much more realistic, and basically awesome.

I think this is a really cool idea...they could even make certain quests night/day specific, or have night/day specific item drops...or how about having the time of day influence certain skills? For example, any type of undead summons would become more powerful after dark...

Interesting indeed...

That is a good thought to kick around. As long as it's a pretty substantial change, I'd be stoked.

And I want more than just Day/Night, tbh..

Do want moar dawn and dusk as well.

Well watching the video, the weather does change from sunny to rainy towards the end. I would imagine there is a very good chance there will be night/day as we've seen the weather change.

I totally agree. I really hope they add "night" to the "day" that they showed in the previews. Come on, the whole Diablo atmosphere is supposed to be dark and creepy. It would make perfect sense and add a great level of "scariness" to the game.

There was night/day in Diablo 2, I see no reason why they wouldn't implement this feature in Diablo 3.

There kind of was, but it wasn't implemented the way blizzard intended it to be. There was supposed to be monsters that would only come out during day/night and items that would have stats only revealed depending on the time of day, stuff like that. It just never showed up in the final product for whatever reason. Plus you couldn't even tell the difference between day and night without trying.

I'm sure they will implement it well in d3, hopefully it will be in real-time too :)

LoL as a side note i always walk my dogs in the cemetary at like 11 at night, not scary imo.

That is a wicked cool idea. I'd love to see something like that in the game.

Werewolves, vampires, and insomniacs, oh my!

There's a lot of unexplored potential regarding the day/night cycle. Both the day and night can provide different gameplay experiences for the player. During the day, you can mainly fight beast-like creatures that are strong, but in low numbers. During the night, however, you mainly fight hordes of undead and other evil creatures. Light radius can also play a bigger role because the strength of the light can weaken the undead. It would kind of be like Gears of War, where the nighttime really sucks for the player because they can easily get killed by huge mass of birds (or zombies in D3) if they go in the dark.

This probably wouldn't be a good idea in a game like Diablo3, because players could end up hating either day or night because they both play differently. I don't know, it was just a thought.

EDIT: ^^^ wow, that's too weird. I didn't see that post before I started typing.

There almost certainly has to be a day/night implemented...I hope. I think it would be an excellent idea to have it so that at night the game is tougher, with more creatures. This could also require a complete change in how the game is played. In the beginning groups may have to go slower at night, insure a variety in the party of chars, etc..

Usually day/night system is more appropriate for games in which you join a premade world , which is not Diablo style.

What do you mean? Diablo acts are all pre-made, there is hardly very little dynamics. For each map there is a set number of variations.

I heard from a 'source' (drunk bliz friend?) that there will be NO day or night in Diablo 3.
Period.

There will only be Wednesdays and Sundays. And it will be October the 7th, all year around.
I guess that's the direction Bliz want to take this game, and we'll simply have to roll with the punches... *insert stoic face here*

That means the game is already made for you, like WoW.
All you have to do is to join in the game.

In Diablo persperctive, you create the game, and people join.
For now, we know not how the game will work, but if its like Diablo2, then the day/night system would be nothing but a waste.

People would just make game to kill specific Bosses then poof.

Blizzard's design philosophy regarding D3 seems to be "never stop the action." You want the player to always go forward, kill more and more enemies, accumulate items, experience and so on. A day/night cycle which would noticeably hinder progress of all or some classes or be more or less beneficial for certain item sets would not be, imo, in Blizzard's interests. But what the hell do I know? :)

I really liked the day/night change in the witcher game.. It was creepy and awesome.

It shouldn't be so drastic, just change the glows to moonlight types of lights and raise the percentage of random encounters more fit to the night (vampires, werewolves and so on).

There is day/night change in Diablo 2. Just join town, like Harrogath, and wait around. It gets dark and light. So D2 has day/night changes, but I'm not sure they apply outside the town.

Anyway, it's not something that's completely outside of D2 realm.

So you let them pee on dead people?

Nice, I'm sure karma will have something to say about that lol

Of course Diablo 3 will have Night/Day cycles. Sacred 2 will have it and they make a big deal out of it, so Diablo 3 can't stay behind on such a simple thing.

Besides, I have an inside source. My neighbours girlfriends parents live across the street of a guy who once said hello to a janitor who cleans the offices at Blizzard.

Allow me to LOL!!

But it would idd be nice if blizz could implement day/night in D3. It was as meantioned earlier already the case in D2, weather was too but nothing was really done with it.

nope, they know not to do their business anywhere besides my backyard, I've had dogs all my life and know how to train them. Actually i go out of my way to pick up garbage from young kids that like to party in there. Of course that's all way off-topic but i hate when people make assumptions.

Anyway, if the day/night cycle was in real-time according to what realm you're on I don't think we would have all the problems that people are proposing.

Not only should they have day/night features which should be timed, but it would also be interesting in climatic weather changes. Right now in D2 they have light rain and some light snow (A1, A5). I was thinking for each climatic location, D3 could generate some instances of heavy snow, heavy rain, wind gusts, leaves blowing, etc.. I think that would be really interesting, say a certain area in snow like Act 5, large heavy snow would start falling... possibly getting on your clothes/armor =)
