After the announcement, the "empty" D2 patch seems like a hidden clue to me.
We already know that they changed the Tristram music, which might be the "New Tristram" music in Diablo 3.
But are there any other clues? Like different text in Tomes? Different NPC monologues? Maybe after you've beat the game and come back to speak with the NPC's, something is different?
There are plenty of ways Blizzard could hint about the new game with semi-active player-base still playing the game. The Tristram music is one example, but I'm sure there could be more.
You can report back here what parts of the game you have taken under the magnifying glass or if you found anything, you can report that also. Together we might be able to find something. If not, we get the excuse of playing the game once more before the sequel comes out :)
