But not anymore! The Lore Panel (
http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/6065/howitshouldlooklikevx5.jpg) cleared all my doubts about the game! It's going to be great!

Why? Because this is exactly the stuff they missed in HG:L and what made it suck. They really didn't consider the inner dynamics of the towns, the people and all that. The culture and history is really strong there. And even if you don't notice it, you feel it. Actually, you shouldn't notice it, just feel it.

I love the way they implement story with non-verbal actions. It's much powerful than the NPC's saying with an epic trailer voice "I am so mighty, fear me". They really get it. I'm so glad. I love it when they don't force the story to anyone, but it's still present and doesn't take time away from the action, if you don't want it to.

Watch the video, it's well worth your time. The gameplay video got me cautiously excited, the lore panel (more fitting name would be the story and the feel of the game panel) made me a fan. With those kinds of brains behind the game, I feel safe waiting for the game.

I'm sorry, I just had to express my reliefs when so many people are concentrating on the negative.

What did you think about the lore panel? Or the environment panel for that matter? Does anyone have videos/transcripts for the audience questions part?

HG:L wasn't even developed by Blizzard, but it's all possible that they saw the faults of HG and wanted to improve on them, though HG:L is only remotely related to the Diablo series in general.

Anyway, I'm with you when you say that people make no sense with their constant nagging about the game and the general negativity about it. It's early in development, what do you expect? I've used betas of programs and played a few betas of games, and you can trust me on the fact that the final product is far better than the beta one.

I haven't watched the panel but I'm quite sure that every spokesman is good at hyping their own games, theyr own babies..Don't get me wrong, I love the Diablo-series.

Jay Wilson, Diablo 3 Lead Designer, before showing the game-play trailer at WWi:

"Before we begin, I would like to remind you all that what you gonna see today is a work in progress (WIP). Nothing is final." (Exact Quote.)

Pretty much sums up what I was saying, and the fact it's coming from a developer of the game proves it.

If you would watch the video, you would know what I'm talking about. It's just not marketing speech - you really have to have a sense of history, certain life experience and most of all, you have to get how people, towns and different philosophies interact. You can't just say those things, if you don't get them. If you get them, you are excited about them and want to implement them in the game. If you don't get them, you wouldn't be able to talk about them so eloquently and with so much insight for over 10 minutes.

It's the same with movies and everything. Something feels off when it's not done right. Most of the people don't know what it is, they just shrug and say "I didn't like it" or the aggressive ones say "I hate it, it's crap".

It doesn't have to be realistic, but the game world has to follow certain rules, it has to be consistent and believable. And that guy totally got it. Many game developer just programs cool mechanics and leave that part out of the game (HG:L, once again). I'm so happy it's not the case with Diablo 3. A game is more than the sum of its parts.

This is Blizzard. This is the reason why their games sell so well, even if most of the people can't figure out exactly what it is. This is quality.

Hellgate: London, made by Flagship Studios which was set up by many ex Blizzard North (ie Diablo series) developers, the least of which include Max and Erich Schaefer and Bill Roper.

Yea i totaly agree HG:L was a total failure, felt lifeless and did not appeal to me in any way, tested it for one that and one day only.

Just way to stiff, Blizzard games always succeed with making everything fit togheter. A nice looking character is nothing without a good animation and if the character dont fit in the environment its even worse. Blizzard never fails on this.

I dont thing games need to have realistic graphics, nice sound effects, realistic physics, realistic gameplay or realistic animations the important part is the sum of all this and it needs to create a good mix.
