View Full Version : every character has a "travel power"?

well, you notice in the demo video those rocks take out the bridge and our barb leaps across, no big deal right? But wait, isn't it likely that every character can go into that dungeon and every character can be faced with that particular challenge?

Isn't it likely than that every character would have a way of dealing with those potential problems? Just because of the nature of those problems i figure every character will have some sort of method for dealing with things like gaps/walls etc

what do you think?

I was wondering the same thing, how would anyone else be able to cross the gap. Obviously some sort of caster may have teleport to get across, but for everyone else, there must be something they can do to get across.

*cough* pre designed level specifically for showcasing a teaser of the game *cough*

I'm almost positive in the real game there would be alternate paths for our terrestrial bound heroes.

yes its obviously just a teaser displaying some of the tech stuff and level design, but i was just wondering what people thought *shrug*

i dunno, not really important atm i suppose haha

I wondered about the same. It wouldn't be such a bad idea to give everyone the ability to "teleport" over a gap. For classes that would get overly imbalanced by it, there could be a long cooldown so that it would be mostly a tool to get over collapsed bridges and the like, rather than become part of the combat routine (like teleport was for the sorceress). Then again, I'm not a huge friend of cooldowns in general ... that pretty much, in the end, spoiled WoW for me.

I think there will be alternative paths, just that it's faster if you have these abilities.

Kinda like how everyone hates on the Barb's in the party during the arcane sanctuary.

there has to be a alternate route, no way around that, unless skills like teleport and leap are free for every class. just cause a barb can spend a point in leap does not mean he will

From what I heard, regarding skills, there will be some "shared skills" and of course the class specific-skills. I guess they chose to make every character able to "leap" or "jump" to support this "faster-paced"-action RPG thingy (setting D3 apart from the downtimesque WOW for example)

Barbarian - Leap
Witch Doctor - Pet?
Amazon-esque Character - Pole Vault :P
Sorceror/ess - Teleport
Necromancer - Bone Bridge o.0
Assassin-esque - Flying Kick/Dflight

I could see it all working.

Maybe everyone gets an Enigma right from the start ^^.

Didn't they show the Barb climbing down a ladder at one point? I got the impression that he was "jumping" rather than "leaping" (ie an inherent ability rather than a skill), and that all characters could likely "jump" just like they could "climb"

Well, I don't think that's the case. Didn't the ground crack and the monsters get damaged when he landed?
