Item Equip Crash

Okay, my friends, I have a problem. I am just getting back into Diablo, I used to play on my PC but now I have a MacBook. I got it working with Mac OSX fine and it's all updated to 1.12 and everything seemed just dandy.

BUT

I have this weird bug, I don't remember ever having this, or ever hearing of it before, so I think it's either a Mac compatibility issue or a patch issue. While the thing crashes somewhat frequently now, that's not what bothers me - It's this bizarre problem both me and my friend have:

As a necromancer, I crash trying to equip a Preserved Head
And as a sorceress I crash trying to equip an Eagle Orb.

And this happens on TCP/IP, Single Player, and Battle.net.

What is up with that? Does anyone else have this sort of problem? I don't have any 3rd party programs or any of that stuff, so it's not that, but if there's some sort of unofficial patch or workaround out there I am open.

Sounds like there's a problem with the expansion part; Preserved Heads and Eagle Orbs are expansion-only items.

As for what causes this, I can think of the following:

One of you has only Classic installed and the other has Expansion. For some reason you still end up in the same game, allowing expansion-only items on a non-expansion character.
You installed 1.12 for Classic.


My advise would be to either install the expansion pack (if it isn't already), or reinstall completely.
