To answer your question: I blame it on the glaring dark side of capitalism: greed. Specifically, the making the most money with the least amount of effort while appearing to give a damn about that which one is ripping off or destroying.

This is the main reason Kevin Smith still works in Holywood. Although I can't complain, I love his movies :D

Come on Blizzard, how about some new info already.

Cool, an OT thread :scratchchin:, anyone looking forward to Assassin's Creed II? I know I am, as long as it isn't as repetitive as the original.

Haven't heard anything about the repetitiveness of ACII. I'll be waiting till the first user reviews before buying that one.

The Game Informer preview looked promising, but I'm never gonna pay $60 for a game... again (after the Fable 2 debacle).

Problem is I just don't trust the gaming press anymore. After the whole Oblivion and Fallout 3 debacle I think they are even more repulsive than Vogon poetry.

Haha, nice reference MM. After I bought Mount&blade and The Last Remnant (both of which scored a dubious 6.5 at gamespot) and played them for months before losing some of their appeal, I couldn't help but notice why game reviews are so skewed. I've been enlightened, it's not really their fault (although some are biased) but it's their schedule and lack of staff. So many games come out that it's impossible to get the big picture without rushing through, and truly epic games have epic content. Epic content requires an epic amount of time... that most don't have to spend on a dozen games.

Please, reply and tell me what you think (only if you read my whole comment!)

Edit: BTW, what was the "Fable II" Debacle?

I see what you mean. Game reviews are kind of like "the pirate code" from Pirates of the Carribean. "Well, they're more like guidelines...."

As far as Fable II is concerned, apparently a good portion of the people who bought the game within about 5 months (a rough estimate by a Lionhead Rep was 10-15%:banghead:) had compatibility problems with the game itself, mostly manifesting in freezing and locking-up in-game OR in my case before I could even start the game. There were multiple yet temporary tactics to combat this (not using any DLC, clearing cashe, reformatting hard drive if it came down to it) but nothing that could be called a decent fix.

If it weren't just Fable II, I'd know it would be a hardware problem, but everythign else runs fine.

After running through 3 copies of the game and sending the system, the external hard drive, and the game itself to XBox support with no success, I had a $250 coaster until about 2 weeks ago, when I bought a few more games.

That is part of the problem. And it is mostly the problem with indy games. Those need some time investment before you understand the intricacies and they become really fun and addicting.

The biggest problem is that fact that the industry thrives on the advertising dollars of the game companies. If they give a bad review to a game being hyped by a publisher then that publisher will be disinclined to spend more advertising dollars. So to appease their caretakers they don't mention obvious faults and rank all games highly.

True so very very true. Hey how about some old fashioned D&D? diablo III style.

The dark bricks of tristram cathedral glisten with the blood of adventurers young and old as you carry yourself into its pool chamber, torch in hand. You see air bubbles popping in the water and a pebble scatters in your peripheral vision. You sense an ambush, what do you do? (you are a witch doctor, respecting the forum)

It seems that the new DIII community forums are missing the one thing that makes dii.net so inviting; Off Topic Threads. So put on your voodoo mask , grab a cold one, and raise some OT, or zombie walls, or both.

Keep in mind forum rules (http://forums.diabloii.net/faq.php?faq=rules) still apply, so keep the foul language, flaming, and mindless spam out (I can read all I want about how people are getting uppity about the possible lack of necromancers in DIII in the rest of this particular fourm).

Repeat after me, and repeat it quickly.

Just a thought..

Maybe, it would be nice. The witch doctor doesn't appear to be big even though he's actually taller than the wizard by a bit.

Death by steam is pretty horrible. Either you lungs burn thus choking you, or your skin gets damaged to the point of shock and you die because of that. Really ****ing cruel.

Who cares? Also, people thought Necromancers had an image problem?

Oh yeah, back in 1.09 and patches before that. Most skills were pretty useless except the IM + BG combo. Necro's were just curse *****es to a party and people generally didn't want to play them.

Do you think will see a change in the WD appearance in Blizzcon?

The appearance of the WD probably won't change. Blizz seems intend on keeping his WC Troll-like appearance and their love of green and purple isn't likely to go away. For some reason the appearance of the WD has been bombarded by the community as proof of the fact that the classes in D3 can be original and fresh. All in all the male WD will keep looking ridiculous with his Parkinson hunchback, while the female WD will remain a sexy female because lord knows that females in games can't be ugly.

Truth be told I don't think we'll be hearing about the WD AT ALL during Blizzcon. They have the possibility of introducing two new classes. Two classes that will generate a large buzz regardless of how they turn out. The WD is pretty old news at this point in time. A lot of people don't even care about him. If Blizz were to reveal more skills for him and actually flesh the character out they would only appeal to those few WD fans. It just makes more sense for them to concentrate on the new classes.

If they do release more skills for the WD or change his appearance he is going to have the same problems as with his introduction. he was released next to the Barb who got most of the attention. If they release more info now all his thunder will be stolen by the new classes.

You really should make a new thread on this. I'd be interested to see what the other posters think about this.

LaZeR
28-06-2009, 17:56
Maybe I should, but I think you just answered the whole thread here (:

However, I must disagree:
1. You belive Blizz will introduce 2 new chars? That's the most optimistic thing I've ever heard. May I ask why? (I strongly think it will be only 1)
2. With only like 10 skills at his arsenal the WD has to have SOME news, especialy comparing to the Barb and Wiz. Maybe he has small fan-base now, but if they release some new epic skills everyone will start to see how cool the WD really is (what basically happened with the Wizard).
3. Huh, I think you're more the correct. The WD will be thunder stolen by the new char. This is a problem. However, if they make the new WD REALLY cool and epic maybe both chars can co-exist. I mean, the Barb didn't steal the WD's thunder because he was cool, but probably because the WD was very not cool..

Death by steam is horrible. It rips off your skin, flesh, and maybe even bone. *rips could be dissolves. Alright, this is not a discussion about skin flesh ripping. I think that they should do whatever. Considering that Blizzard releases information so slowly, any information is good information :P

Actually my guess is that they will only release one. They need another bombshell to drop sometime. Either during the next Blizzcon or during the promotion phase for the games release. A single new char at this Blizzcon is enough to keep people buzzing for a few more weeks.

what basically happened with the Wizard

The Wiz had her own little introduction party and didn't have to share. Plus she is an easily identified icon.

However, if they make the new WD REALLY cool and epic maybe both chars can co-exist. I mean, the Barb didn't steal the WD's thunder because he was cool, but probably because the WD was very not cool..

The problem is that the WD is "old" while the introduced char is completely "new". No matter how cool they make the "old" the "new" will always attract more attention.

I might be too pessimistic at the moment, but I don't believe that the WD will get the image he deserves.

Alright, this is not a discussion about skin flesh ripping.

And why not? It is Diablo-like, Necro-like and WD-like. If there ever was a thread about skin flesh ripping, this would be it.

At first, I thought it was a naked wizard, but then I noticed that she was holding a Skull of Flame. But her skin is white, isn't it? Does that mean we can customize our characters?

Edit: It has probably already been noted. Maybe it has something to do with the light that makes her skin appear white?

Right. I didn't think it deserved it's own topic since it's not a big thing and I thought this was a "general discussion about the Witch Doctor" thread. I guess not. And if that's clothes, what is he wearing? A white skin coloured tight jumpsuit and a bra? Seems a little odd.

Cxplorer - at the risk of prying, in a mature, academic sense I have been aching for a valid socio-geographic response. So, I do hope you will be candid with the following question.

I've made no attempt to hide my opinion that the WD is derivative, romanticized on British African Imperialism, and at the very least a mildly offensive character. As I am Irish in heritage, the converse stereotypical equivalent to me would be a beer-swilling, Gaelic-cursing, kilt-wearing oaf, who's skills include chucking empty beer flasks instead of frogs.

Do you find the WD a bit close to the cheap knock-off of a bad image, or just iconized fun?

Of course, I love to make fun of myself, so the aforementioned character idea sounds hilarious, but again, D3 is a fantasy game - fantasy characters should have elements of references, not be near duplicates.
