Interesting but the big question is: How do they sound?

Skjolde
23-04-2012, 18:54
I only use them for listening to my LP's. And I think it sounds great.

But then again, my main goal is to "catch" that sound, that those records back then had, when it was played on the different music systems(?), back then.

I think I've posted this before, but if you haven't seen it, I have these as my arrangements:

Speakers: http://www.beoworld.org/prod_details.asp?pid=446 (although in a different color)

Beomaster 1900-2: http://beocentral.com/beomaster1900-2

LP player: http://beocentral.com/beogram1700 (slightly different color as well)

Muggs
23-04-2012, 19:52
Nice setup.

I need to get some new floor speakers. I have 2 DCM kx12s which were great 15years ago but sound muddy now so I guess my tastes have changed. I also have 2 technics SL-1200M3Ds for vinyl and am in desperate need of a new amp too. I should try and sell my speakers and Amp and get something better.

kestegs

Reminds me that I need to post a pic of my new office.

Something in particular you have in mind for replacements?

I think that the next thing that I will swap out, is my turntable. Although I'll try to keep all the different things from the same time of manufacture. Which I have accomplished except for the speakers. Which are from the 1972-74. where as all the others, has been manufactured around 1978-1982.

I dunno, maybe I should just focus on the speakers. I've been playing with the idea of getting a B&O CD player. But that would screw with the manufacture period, so I'm not sure about that. The first one, developed and manufactured in 85-86 (which fits the timeline okish), is too dependent of a certain B&O system. I'm not sure, maybe I'll give it a chance anyway.

kestegs

IT's not as hard as you might think. Turning off alerts has made it much more doable, I usually don't think about the forums if I am working now.

Jcakes
25-04-2012, 12:48
Yeah fair enough. I don't go on the forums when I have a lot of work to do.

Are you calling me a woman?

Tapatalk is fine, just need to not use alerts.

Jcakes
25-04-2012, 14:32
Well you are not a man :)

I was actually making sure that when talking about mods I took into account there are female mods as well. Given you called me sexist about referring to the WD as a male.

Muggs
25-04-2012, 14:51
I hate posting with Tapatalk so it is really a non issue for me. Something about typing on a phone still just doesn't work for me. And I don't think I ever had alerts on because my phone would never stop making noise that way.

Jcakes
25-04-2012, 14:52
Yeah I think for anyone but kegs having alerts is a bad thing :)

Muggs
25-04-2012, 14:54
Silly kegs he just had to be more normalized and that fixed him.

kestegs
25-04-2012, 23:14
I can be normal now?

I don't like typing on the phone, but I don't type terribly fast on my keyboard anyways so it's not a huge time difference.

Jcakes
25-04-2012, 23:44
I imagine typing on a phone would be much slower for me compared to keyboard.

kestegs
26-04-2012, 00:14
It is still slower, but with swype it is actually fairly fast. I've gotten pretty decent at typing on my comp now though. I was never any good in high school though.

Jcakes
26-04-2012, 02:32
I got good at typing on the computer during university when I had to output ridiculous amounts of work. MSN messenger also helped a bit.

Cakes is like the rest of us and not till 12PDT it is you EU bastards that will be finishing Normal before we even get the game installed.

Skjolde
26-04-2012, 14:38
No, what I meant was when you guys actually would be able to play? Do you have friends, family or work that gets in the way? Or can you play as soon as it's release?

Muggs
26-04-2012, 14:41
Well it won't be released till 3am here so i will probably go to bed normal time and get up and play a bit on tues but I have to work on Weds after that I am golden.

kestegs
26-04-2012, 18:04
Okay....maybe not that evil.

My wife works from 7-noon on weekdays. Normally I go to work after dropping the kids of at school. I won't be scheduling anything before noon that week :)

I think her job ends on the 24th though, so it will be a short lived plan.

I reckon I got about 48 hours of gaming before I need to focus on reading for my exams.

Jcakes
27-04-2012, 00:43
I am not sure how it will work out for me, I'll probably be on about 2 to 3 hours after it goes live.

Muggs
27-04-2012, 01:13
You can play that afternoon Cakes, No? It goes live like 2pm for you I thought.

Jcakes
27-04-2012, 01:21
Yeah but I will have work most likely :)

Muggs
27-04-2012, 01:37
Till what time? I should be on 7-9pm your time. Since I am not staying up for release but getting on in the morning. But as I am typing this I forgot I am not talking to anyone till I complete the game.

I'll probably be in the mumble lounge at that time, I think.

Jcakes

Nice catch Kestegs ... totally missed that one.

I would expect to see everyone online from at least Thurs or possibly friday on and that is definitely when I will be online including the weekend.

Skjolde
27-04-2012, 11:58
I'm pretty sure that I have to work the whole weekend.

Not that it matters much, most of you guys that I talk to, are on a different server.

Jcakes
27-04-2012, 11:59
You could always play on the NA server

Skjolde
27-04-2012, 12:00
I thought about that.

I don't really think it's a good idea.

Muggs
27-04-2012, 12:06
We were just having that discussion on Mumble and there are definitely more than a few people who will not be playing with during the launch of the game. SK, Kori, Kaydee, Farxy, Loriku, to name a few. All the NA server definitely seems more active on the pre-release mumble.

kestegs
27-04-2012, 12:12
Either server you play you will miss out on done awesome people to play with, so you might as well play your natural one.

Muggs
27-04-2012, 12:20
I plan on eventually making an EU character so I can play with my EU friends. Will probably wait a bit so they can twink me out properly

Skjolde
27-04-2012, 13:31

Jcakes
27-04-2012, 14:41

Muggs
27-04-2012, 14:54
Yeah we get the Aussies and Kiwis but Autti and I were talking about it and it is just him and you on the server. And I will be sure to be up in the AM here so I can get some cakes gaming time in.

kestegs
27-04-2012, 16:16
Thought we had another Aussie, but maybe not.

We've got a bunch in the spf.

I hate math.

I'm doing an assignment which isn't really a real assignment.

More a description of a certain subject that you need to share with the rest of the class. I'm doing this at the last minute (I know). But it looks like I may not have been in school the day it was taught. I can't find my notes about it and I can't seem to get any help from my book. It irritates me to no end and I'm sleepy.

It's a bit too late now. About to go to bed:)

EDIT: But my assignment was to write about

-differentiation of the exponential function (If it's translated sorta correctly)

I can find some examples on the interwebs. But it needs to be easy to understand. Meaning I haven't really found any sources that explains it in a easy understandable way.

The reason for this is that the thing I write has to be copied to all my other class mates, and act as sort of notes on that particular subject. If that makes sense.

I have to explain how I differentiate a exponential function. Just in general.

And I guess my problem is that I'm clueless about it.

From first principles? I can do that for you.

Last post for today. Need my 5 hours. I'll be looking forward to your reply Cakes:)

Jcakes
01-05-2012, 00:59
ok no problems, I assume by exponential you mean eX?

Jcakes
01-05-2012, 01:44
Ok this is more difficult than I remember, and I wont be able to type it all out, but I can get you most of the way :D

f(x) = a(x)

From first principles the derivative of f(x), f'(x) = lim(h->0) (f(x+h) - f(x))/h
=> f'(x) =lim(h->0) (a(x+h)-a(x))/h
=> f'(x) = lim(h->0) (axah-ax)/h = lim(h->0) ax(ah-1)/h

now x is not a function of h and can be brought out of the limit expression leading to

f'(x) = ax.lim(h->0)(ah-1)/h

now this is where it gets complicated.

lim(h->0) (ah-1)/h = ln(a).

I can prove that from first principles, but it is difficult and requires understanding of some other differentiation rules (namely the differentiation of an inverse rule). Anyway all said and done the answer ends up being

f'(x) = ln(a).ax

That is pretty cool, I always found plastics fairly interesting. My final year project (for chemical engineering) was the production of Polyoxymethylene (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyoxymethylene) from green (I.E non petrolleum based) feedstocks.

These days however I work mostly in the Oil and Gas industry, would be interested in getting into plastics though.

My hs teacher was an under-qualified jackass who hated my mate and me. That made the lessons quite hard. It gave me quite a bit of schadenfreude when he was forced to leave after having an affair with an underaged student. Luckily our replacement teacher was aces and helped me a lot. Similarly, my teacher at uni was brilliant, eccentric and very good at explaining.

There were a few courses on production of chemicals in industrial amounts during my studies. The differences between making a lab amount or trying to make a metric ton of stuff is just so large. Different problems and different ways of looking at things. I found it quite interesting.

Yep, it is a completely different way of thinking TBH. We spend a lot of time on understanding / modelling the kinetics of reactions so that we can easly scale up the reaction in a CSTR or a PFR. The thing I found most interesting was scale-up of CSTRs for bio reactions and the different methods they use.

Amen to the schadenfreude. i don't believe in karma, but it's nice to see the examples where i might be completely wrong. Also had an hs teacher like that, different discipline though, but he was brutal. and my gf at the time suspected he was into her and trying to make 'something' happen during the undeserved, random detentions he kept dispensing... real creep of a douchebag, that one. Subtle though. Wish i could say justice prevailed, but he didn't give us any ammunition that we could escalate to admin during that year. Of course, for her sake, i was glad she didn't have to go through something worse either.

Anyways, good to hear you had better formative instruction in the end. In uni, i was more on the humanities side, but i had a helluva time getting through western art lectures until this one teacher made it brilliant. On my retake, this prof infused all of the different changes in art styles with their corresponding political intrigues and socioeconomic concurrencies. Had me riveted. =]

That whole teacher/student thing is happening far too frequently in my city, I think we're up to six in the last three years. Must be something in the water, I don't know.
I always did well by putting things into stories. If I can't remember specifics, I formulate a story about it that I can tell myself, that helps. My first college history professor did that the first day, I was so amazed. I guess it isn't that rare, but the way he did it was so flawless, I have yet to find another teacher capable of making a lecture so enjoyable.
